*sigh* Why do my laptop problems appear when it's unplugged?

Ok, so my notebook has been quiet ever since I got it. Only some fan noise [which I don't find annoying at all] and mildly annoying hard drive clicks [which NHC solved -- solution to this I found in the forums].

Now, I was testing my router's range because my aunt has been complaining about the signal not reaching her room. So I went to her room, turned on my laptop [unplugged, on battery power], and WTF. I hear this dot matrix printer-ish noise from my laptop! I think this is what is more commonly known as "CPU whine"? It's coming from the left-ish side of my laptop. This is the first time I'm hearing this. Is it just a coincidence that my laptop is unplugged or will it also emit this noise when I plug it again? It's really annoying. :(

So yeah, how to solve this problem? I can't ask for a replacement anymore... Can't it be solved by software updates or something? I'm not sure what versions my motherboard is. When I boot up, it says my BIOS is A01 Revision or something. Is that related to the problem?

I'm going back to my room and plug my lappy back in after I drain the battery. Wish me luck. *crosses fingers*

    Thanks

Thank goodness, high pitched noise gone! Now that I'm plugged again, that is. I can only hear it when I stick my ear very closely to the left-most part of my laptop. Otherwise, it's just the fan whir.

Anyway, is this really a problem that exists when a laptop is unplugged? Or is my laptop just faulty? I searched of course and I see that it's somehow related to the motherboard? But then it's called CPU whine? Seeing as replacing my laptop is out of the question, are there any other solutions to this?

    Thanks!
