Mistakes can be bargains for those of us needing something in a pinch

My Wifes Vostro 1500 bit the dust, she had a nice core duo

I have a studio 1555 so guess what I get? the Dell 11z brand new for 250 USD

Bargain for a small basic laptop

    Cel 743
    2gb Ram
    GS45 video
    3 cell battery
    win 7 home premium
    WEI 3.0

    The screen is amazing

    last night I

    ripped audio
    ran a video
transferred a 2gb file from one flash to another
    surfed the web

all at the same time! and all worked

I have to say for what it costs and how its working the worst thing on the laptop is the touch pad, and I have customized that too.

If you want something that is way better then a netbook but as small and portable then check out the bargains for the 11z now

I've had that model in the past, and I must say I'm amazed (sp. skeptical) that you could do all that simultaneously on a Celeron chip with the crappy Intel Graphics. I think we need a YouTube video for proof! :D

    Enjoy your new toy!

LOl yeah it was stressed for sure I used AoA to rip the audio but it did work and I wanted to see what would crash or happen if I did this insane thing with a cel

I think bottom line is today's Cel is not yesterdays Cel and do not underestimate what they can do.

I'm getting a better laptop later this is just for the next 6 months or so till I have the Cash and time to get my new dream laptop, but I think I may keep this to tote around since it seems to work OK.

I have a External DL DVD writer anyway ( had it for years)

I may consider the new Dual core cel in my next notebook

Was wondering why dell has not released any info on future models with the new AMD fusion chips? The new HP dm1 with the fusion AMD/ATI chip will no doubt blow the 11z out of the water in 3D performance, cooling as well as battery life. Yet out of the major manufacturers, dell has released nothing about using it. Real world battery life on the new DM1 is approaching 7 hours.. with wifi and videos which is pretty amazing. And still be able to do 1080P and play allot of modern games. I think Dells older cpu technology is currently over priced now that AMD has finally unleashed its fusion chips.

But doing the above multitasking job on a new fusion would be no problem at all. Its crazy fast in W7 environment. And all for 50 bucks more then the outlet price.

? the 11z is discontinued for the M101z You can get a 11z in the outlet and on ebay and some stores still but they are gone for the future. The M101Z in not exactly like the 11z but its better in someways, with a better battery life. Yes I want a decent Battery life but since it was 250 its cheap enough to just get the functionality I needed.

Yeah i can see it at 250. But the outlet link showed 399 which seemed a bit high. Still, wondering when Dell will update the 101Z to the fusion?

Man, your out of the loop. Biggest Hit at CES was AMD's new Fusion dual core AMD E-350 with AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics. That is replacing the older neo processor in the HP dm1. Lenovo, Sony, Acer, and just about everyone but dell are scrambling to build new models on this. AMD calls these APU's or advanced processing units.. Having the CPU and GPU on the same die. What it does is run cooler and give much better graphics as well as significant increased battery life. At the same time it can play back 1080P as smooth as butta without dropped frames and can stomp a i5 with intel graphics in gaming. Its actually games fairly well at the price point. Real world numbers are getting the new HP dm1 close to 7 hours on a charge. I'm surprised that dell has not announced it yet for the 101z. Just look at the review on front page of this site for hp dm1 or google AMD FUSION E-350 and you will learn its really a hot cake right now. The 101z could benefit allot in increased battery life and cooling. It makes no sense to keep to the neo. I don't think AMD will build that much longer anyways.

Same, I have no idea why Dell hasn't announced any laptops with the new Fusion chips in them. Are they still bound to Intel or what?

Actually no. The Dell 101Z is using AMD's neo dual core K325 with ATI 4225 graphics. Performance wise, its a fast machine. The reason the new AMD 350 fusion is better is that it provides the same, if not better performance as the neo, but does it running cooler and more importantly, will get ya at least 1.5 hours more battery life. Seems like everyone is scrambling to put Fusion systems together. But I have not heard anything from Dell about when they will change over their 101Z to the new AMD fusion platform. Its going to happen, its just a matter of when. And if your even thinking about buying a neo system, I wouldn't. It would be smarter to buy an HP dm1 now or wait for dell to get it together.
