Hehehe, there's always worst somewhere else though. Your tax seems to be around 9%. Here in Canada, I pay 15% taxes on everything, this would include Dell computers!

You'll feel better about the tax when you realise that VAT (sales tax) in the UK is 17.5% :p

Well, Dell Japan isn't too terribly bad tax wise (5% consumption tax on EVERYTHING), but we don't get nearly the deals you guys in the states get.

For example, I'm seriously considering replacing my Inspiron 8500 with an e1505 (i6400 over here), but the best deal I've Dell Japan offer so far is an 8% off coupon on the following rig:

    Win XP Pro SP2 Japanese
    Core Duo T2500 2GHz
    TruLife WSXGA+
    1GB RAM (512x2)
    100GB HDD (SATA 5400rpm)==>they won't let you get a 7200rpm w/ the X1400
    Double Layer DVD+/-RW
    9 Cell Battery
    Intel PRO Wireless 3945ABG
    Bluetooth
    ATI X1400 256
    4 yr ext. warantee
4 yr complete care (excluding theft)

    w/ 8% off coupon, comes to 204,083 yen (194,365 + 9,718 tax, free shipping)

Now, according to XE.com, this comes to 1763.49 at today's rates. From what I can tell, significantly higher than what most of you're paying.

    Lucky bums...

Welcome to the club, seems a fine place to be!

Actually, I don't think it matters much, it doesn't look like they subtracted the $750 off from the order anyhow did they? It should show up down there in the total cost, then show as a "-$750" with a new cost (minus the $750) in the bottom.

It looks like you didn't tack on enough options to get your initial cost up over the $1999 mark in order for the $750 off option to take effect. If I'm reading your total right, I'd cancel that order on the phone by calling Dell and having the rep cancel it for you. Then rebuild the same system but be sure to tack on enough extra options to get your total cost right at $2000. This will activate the coupon code for $750 off you entered in and bring your total actual price right back down to almost exactly what your paying right now (actually a couple dollars cheaper), plus you'll be getting the same exact system but with even more higher priced options for the same exact price.

Just do that and reorder, you'll only delay things by one more day.

wow.. that really speccing out the E1505 :p
but the prices are actually... somewhat the same in Japan and in the states.
According to your specs that you put on the E1505, my subtotal in the US comes to $1759.... not really much difference to you're paying :p

Thanks for the reply & info Knives,

But does the total you come up w/ factor in coupons, tax, & possible shipping?

    Thanks,

    HH ;)

p.s. & edit: Yeah, that is a pretty specced out config, but the wife's given me a pretty lenient budget (somewhere between 200,000 & 300,000 yen), so I'd like to make it as future proof as possible.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try and knock out some 3dmark scores ASAP when I get it, the 7900GTX should make em shine pretty well. Was running out of money so I kinda went short on CPU and memory only because AFAIK I am able to upgrade both of em later on. Will be my first laptop also, was always hesitant to buy one cause I cant rip it apart and make it better when new stuff comes out. Now I just need laptop insurance so I could possibly allow myself to take it out of the house once I get it...
