It is a little bit of both. People sell stuff like that on ebay all the time.
-
i'm surprised dell hasn't cracked a whip at the seller yet... dell doesn't like stuff to be sold on ebay apparently or at least their laptops.

Well actually, it is fully legal to do. Dell may not like it, but there is nothing they can do about it unless they stop selling to that person, which I doubt they will do. That person is just acting as a reseller. It is the same thing with sports tickets, cause technically is it not scalping, it is an auction. Which is actually kind of odd considering all of the stuff that makes a mint on Ebay.

I can understand it from that perspective if dell was selling these coupons, but to my knowledge they aren't. I could be wrong though.

I think the same way, it is kinda sad that someone will actually buy the coupon. Well if the coupon runs out and it is still on there I am sure someone is going to be PO'ed because of this.

It is NOT legal. I have reported a few of those guys. Ebay says right in their rules, NO ELECTRONIC COUPONS!!
Plus, I saw a few people that made it look like they were selling actual computers. Funny how people don't check feedback before bidding -

Sublime,
I was refering to the people that use the coupons and then sell the computer on Ebay. That is legal. Selling electronic coupons my comment earlier about being legal was referring to the computers that they can sell. I read the post wrong. Sorry guys.

Yeah, that is definitely different. But even then, I believe there was someone on here talking earlier about Dell cancelling their auction. I believe you click a box saying you do not intend to resell the computer when you buy it from Dell. I have done it myself though, usually there are no problems

See, that is the thing...legally it is no longer property of Dell. If I decided that I didn't want my computer anymore I can sell it on Ebay. I believe there is a legallity issue regarding how many you can sell before you are considered a reseller.

okay, i did some searching and found out what happened.
The seller that was on here earlier was selling a brand new 6000, and the auction got cancelled by Ebay. Reason was that he violated property right by dell.
Here is a link from dell that gives more info: http://www.channeladvisor.com/merchants/dell/logo.htm
The whole debate about this is that dell does not authorize you to sell NEW laptops, but I believe you can sell your used laptops. You can do a simple search on ebay and see how many people do sell laptops. With the coupons out, they are able to buy them fairly cheap and sell them at a higher price. So I think dell created this rule specifically for that issue.
Sublime, i think the check box that you are thinking of is the exporting issue. You can only export your laptop if you check that box or something weird.

The explains it....great post Southerngirl. That is explains why I see the auctions saying "Like New" or in some cases "Unused", which I think was pretty funny.
Oh Boy..
