Really, this isn't a complaint thread because they're being super nice and all, but it's just funny and a tad bit silly!
So I called in to tell them that my system is heating up into the 70s and 80s, and yet the fan is not spinning at an audible speed! I asked if they could send me a utility to monitor or set fan speed.
I was told all they could do for me is send in a technician tomorrow to swap the entire cooling system!!! Again, I'm not complaining because it would have been free, but damn talk about overkill!!
Any suggestions? I really doubt a new fan and heatsink will fix anything, if the RPM is not set higher...and I don't want to butcher this new laptop.
EDIT: I have an e6520 with next-day business warranty.

Speedfan has the ability to do this, but does not support all systems.
-
It nor i8kfan support my e6520...

Guess you are out of luck then to be honest. I would just have them replace the thermals and apply some new thermal paste.
-
To those who got SpeedFan to work, can you tell me your BIOS version and Speedfan version? I don't know why it doesn't detect any fans for me...

I had a failed screen, and knew it was the screen. So dell came by and replaced my mobo, both graphics card, the screen, and the wireless card. LOL.

Just out of curiosity, are your temps going beyond the 80s? What are you doing when the computer is reaching the 70s and 80s? Is the computer stressed or just idle? Though I'm not familiar with your specific model Latitude, I think you generally don't need to be concerned about temps until you start pushing the upper 90s, so I wouldn't be alarmed if the machine is registering 70s/80s under load. If it's just idle, I guess that's a different story...

Mines registering 70ish when under light load just browsing,When gaming it can get upto 95. Should I be worried ? The system is a dell inspiron 1545 shiped late 2009 and still in warrenty. What should i do? -
