I went out and bought a backpack for college and my laptop today. I bought the swissgear one for 15" notebooks from BB for like 80 dollars today and it's awesome as hell. I didn't realize this until I got done getting all my binders and books together and put them in the bag. Well my 1520 is going to be in tommorow so I wanted to test out the laptop compartment... I put my dads 15" hp lappy in there and it was awesome. It felt so secure and was very nicely supported and padded.. then I thought twice... holy **** my laptop has the oversized battery sticking out the back and this hp with none at all fills all space available in there... There is no way in hell my 1520 is going to fit in that thing with that 9cell sticking out like that so is there any way I can remove it? Please god say yes

Yes, but then you'll have a gap and the power leads will be exposed.

What are the power leads and how will they be exposed? The only time I would remove it is when It's in my backpack and i'm just carrying it around. I'd put it back in when I was about to use it.

The power leads are the connectors that attach to the battery. They will be exposed since there won't be a battery covering it up. The only thing I'd be worried about is if something were to short circuit the leads, such as... fuzzies from your backpack or other things that might get in the backpack compartment.

There should only be an extremely small chance of anything bad happening though.

You might be surprised, I bought a bag with my E1705 and my 1700 fits in it with the 9-cell with no issues!

Yeah I think the 1520 would fit in quite well along with the 9-cell battery itself.... It aint protruding that long out I guess....

Ya and also just because they're both 15" screens it doesn't necessarily mean their external dimensions will be the same. Good Luck

Did you consider ordering the 6-cell battery that does not extend beyond the basic dimensions of the laptop?

Why would a laptop's battery not be removeable...

Keep in mind if you plan to remove and insert the battery every time you are transporting it then using your laptop's Suspend feature is out of the question, as it still requires power to keep your data in RAM while 95% of the rest of the laptop is off.

Hibernate on the other hand would work fine, as the data/session is stored to the hard-drive before the machine is completely powered off.

The 9-cell really doesn't stick out that much. Don't worry about it.

Also, is your dad's notebook widescreen? If it isn't, I bet your new notebook with the 9-cell battery will fit better than your dad's.
