I reformatted my E1505 as the guide SG put up said, but I'm having laods of problems with the drivers. I just had my sound card stop working - no driver was signed, so I installed one "SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio" and it works now, but the volume controls on both my keyboard and my media buttons on the front don't work at all. How can I fix that, and get that nifty volume display to pop up on the screen when I do change the volume?
Also, I have some devices that have the yellow question mark. They're all labeled "Other Devices" and are Base System Device, Base System Device, Base System Device, Ethernet Controller and I can't get any of them to work. What are they and how can I fix them? Thanks everbody... I just want my new computer to work correctly!![]()

AFAIK, the media buttons should still work w/o Quickset... but try installing it to see if it'll work. The other drivers you still need to install are probably
1. Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller
2. Ricoh R5C832 -
Quickset will fix that
Go Start, right click my computer, properties, hardware tab, then hit the device manager button.
If there is a questio mark on any of them, it means the driver isn't installed
just wanted to post that in case -
Quickset only does the display for the volume controls, but it does not act as a driver for the media buttons - so it should have no effect on whether your volume button works or not.
I would try reinstalling your chipset driver or reflashing your BIOS if you haven't already. Sometimes the chipset driver doesn't install right unless you reboot it and then reinstall that driver. Another suggestion from Dell is to reinstall your Notebook System Software driver if you have not done this already.
As j4y said, you need to install those two drivers in order to get rid of the unkown devices.

Thanks everyone, I got all those issues taken care of. However, I've noticed a new one that arose. My mouse tracking pad has little scroll bar options on the right side and bottom, and they worked before the reinstall, but now they don't. Touching the pad over there always just acts like normal now. Are there any drivers I'm missing for that, or something I need to change in a program? Thanks everyone.

Install your touchpad/mouse drivers. If you've installed them, then chances are that you need to enable the scrolling feature. Go to control panel --> mouse, and you should see a tab or something for scrolling.

Oh also, on another topic... Since I don't (yet) have any Bluetooth peripherals, will disabling the BT signal save battery life? I assume it will, but I guess I don't know if it makes any difference.
-
If it does save battery, it would probably be unoticeable/minimal. I disabled mine just because I don't like the annoying software on it. You won't hurt anything by disabling it.

Alright, sounds good. I just bought a wireless mouse, but I'm not sure I'm happy with it, so I might be in the market for a BT mouse (maybe, we'll see what happens.). But since you're around and answering so quickly, do you know of any way to assign hotkeys on this computer? I'd like to be able to set a FN+F# combo to open control panel or the such.

I had lots of the same question, gr8 thread
