So I did it. Couldn't pass up the price, so I went ahead and ordered a Vostro 1400. :D The specs are in my sig. Now, some questions:

    1. Will this memory work?: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820178147

    2. Am I going to be disappointed by Home Basic? Should I call Dell and see if they can upgrade me to home premium? I don't think I will have any use for the Aero interface other than looks. The main functions of this laptop will be document writing, note taking, web surfing, DVD watching, music downloading/listening. Will Basic fit my needs ok? I I do decide to upgrade to Premium in the Future, will Dell support the drivers?

Thats all for right now, I'm quite happy with my purchase though and actually ended up spending a lot less than I thought I would. Thanks again for the help, this is an awesome site!

    1. yes that ram would work
    2. no, other than semi-transparent taskbars and media center, theres no real difference between basic and premium.

if you do decide to upgrade to premium, if you already have a dell vista home premium disk then its very easy, just format your new laptop and use the dell home premium disk to install.
