Yes, I know this laptop is old (2005) now. But, it still works and will serve as a great portable laptop for my sister who will be needing it in school.

Anyway, there's a problem. The screen is cracked, but everything else still works. What can you guys suggest I do to repair this without sending it to Dell? Any local repair stores that can do this for me in Virginia (McLean, Vienna, Falls Church Area)?

    Thanks,
    Eric Huang

    Theros123,

How comfortable are you in replacing the LCD yourself? You can find the replacement part online from a variety of etailers. You can buy the part from them and if you are comfortable taking apart the computer, replace the screen yourself.

The service manual is available from support.dell.com.
You can get the LCD screen from any spare-parts etailer or ebay. My personal preferance is www.parts-people.com.

    Good Luck!

I'm guessing looking on eBay or calling Dell would be the best ways to order a replacement part.

Edit: And what booji said. :p

Well, I don't want to screw anything up. I read over the service manual...it's just too complicated for myself to do without messing up. What I could do is buy the LCD screen and get someone to install it for me? Would that be possible?

If so, can you recommend anyone for parts install?
