I'm now on my 2nd grainy and washed out LCD. First one was a Samsung and this one is an AUO. So about an hour after the tech left my house on Wednesday I called to get it replaced again. I spent an hour on the phone telling the guy I wouldn't take an AUO and at the very least expected another Samsung, but would prefer an LG if possible.
So I give him my address for my dorm which I'll be moving into tomorrow and he puts me on hold for quite awhile as he fills out the paperwork for the replacement. Finally it's done and he informs me I should be getting a call from the tech on Friday.
This morning I got a call from the tech and he wanted to setup a time to replace the LCD. He tells me there's a note with my record saying parts on site. As far as I knew the LCD would be shipped to the tech like last time. I told him I didnt have anything and he had nothing so I called Dell.
After explaining the situation to Dell, the woman looked into the dispatch and told me no parts were ordered at all! The idiot created a dispatch but never ordered the replacement LCD. So she says she'll do it for me and call me back in 10 minutes. She does and gives me 2 options. Go through with another LCD replacement or they'll replace the laptop. I told her I'd think it over and call back tomorrow.
My first instinct was, hey a new laptop that's great. But I really dont wanna go through the hassle of transferring programs and such. It also seems ridiculous to replace the laptop for the screen issue as there's the same chance I'll get another bad LCD. I think when I call back tomorrow I'll push the WSXGA so I can get an LG. If they offered a new laptop I'm sure I can get them to upgrade the screen.
Anyone think I should take the new laptop instead?

If you have no other problems with this laptop, I seriously recommend that you keep it. Otherwise there is a fair chance that you will get a laptop with other defects/problems :S
-
That's what I'm thinking especially with the wait times on the laptops right now. The only other problem is the hissing sound from the headphone jack, but it doesn't really bug me plus it sounds like Dell is working on a software fix for the issue.
From what I understand the LG WSXGA screens are the most problem free LCD's right now? Right now I've got the WXGA+ but I'd go for the WXGA or the WSXGA as long as I can get a good one. -
it seems like most problems are coming from the 1520s.. i don't hear as many complaints from 1420s and 1720s..
-
good luck it takes A LOT to get them to change the res of the screen.. and even after requesting the lg i still ended up with a sec wsxga.. i have a whole replacment on the way and they claim it has the lg... i can view my invoice so i dont know for sure. but there is a wxga+ lg also a few here have been getting if you check recent threads.. that may be the MUCH easier way for you to get a lg instead..

btw i had a replacement set up on the 13th and it has already shipped. the wait time for a 1520 is 8 days or less.. just a thought

Hmmm.....when I asked about the LCD's they were using the woman said it was VEA which I'd never heard of. She said no Samsung, no AUO, or LG's, but kept insisting VEA. I'd love to just have the screen res I have now as it's perfect so hopefully I can get that LG. Maybe I call and immediately ask for a supervisor or escalations?
Hell, my dads about to order 20 new desktops and a few laptops for his office from Dell, maybe I tell them if they keep screwing up the LCD there won't be an order. I did that with my Dell MP3 player and they looked at how much my dad actually buys from Dell and immediately shipped a new one when it was six months out of warranty. -
try it.. deal strictly with escalations..

I've got an Idea!! send it back and buy a sony (if you can afford it). mind you the send back cost is a little dear for my liking. "supposedly" cost me $268 dollars AUS, I've sent them an email complaining about this issue because they previosly said it was only going to cost me $170 dollars?? what the f&%@ hey.
SEND IT BACK -
If you get a replacement, you can just swap out the HDD from the current one to the replacement.
I asked them about it since I had used the original one for a week or so and had already 'moved in', if you know what I mean. -
That's what I was thinking but I'm fairly useless when it comes to opening up computers so there's no way I could swap the HDD's myself. And for some reason I highly doubt they'd send out a tech to switch the HDD's for me.
