    Hi. Man, Vista boot is slow. I followed the suggestions on this page;

    http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2151209,00.asp

    Now I cold boot in about 46-48 seconds from power button press to the user login screen. Not bad.

    These hints will help you with getting through the article;

    1) When you are trying to move the fonts to a font backup folder- the way to do this is to copy the ENTIRE font folder and then paste the whole thing into a backup folder (I named mine Fonts Backup- name yours whatever you like). This way if you mess up and delete some fonts you may want later you can restore them. I deleted all of the fonts I could except the ones the article suggested to keep. Note that windows vista doesn't let you delete all of the useless fonts, just delete as many as you can. Also- make sure you select the fonts in groups when you delete them, as windows confirm will come up every time if you don't have it disabled.

    2) If you disable some programs from startup, whether it is by defender or some other program, when you boot up you will get an annoying message in the taskbar. Here is how to get rid of that message;

    I hope this helps! I have disabled a lot of my devices as well. Bluetooth, firewire, CD-rom- pretty much anything I don't use all the time. I had trouble disabling the express card, so I just left it up. Windows is a whole hell of a lot snappier if you go through this guide and do what you feel comfortable with.

    EDIT: you will be much happier if you make restore points before, during, and after this process. Vista just isn't stable enough yet not to. That way, you're ok if things crash on you.

    Enjoy!
