Hey everyone. I've just recently started having issues with the 's' key on my laptop. I have to press extremely hard just to get it to register. I'm not new to opening/repairing/building computers, but I have limited experience with laptops.

I pulled out the keyboard component of the laptop, but I am not exactly sure how to open it up. There are no visible clips or screws anywhere. If I skirt around the seam it seems to click open, but I don't want to continue this in case it's not meant to be doing that. This is the one I'm dealing with:

I've searched for tutorials on how to do this but I can only find key replacements for laptops that allow you to remove individual keys, and entire keyboard panel replacements. I cannot find anything that describes how to open up a self-contained keyboard component.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,

Please find below, the link for the Inspiron 5110 Service manual. You may refer to the same for instructions on how to replace/reseat the Keyboard. As per your post, I understand that the issue is with key 'S'. You may run the 'Custom test' on the keyboard using the 'Dell 32 bit diagnostics utility'. During the diagnostics, if you have to press the key hard to get it to register, then you may consider replacing the keyboard.

I hope this helps. Please do reply in case you need any further assistance.
