I know the two are nothing alike, but I'm waiting for my 6000 to be built...
It is configured with a 1.7ghz, 1GB Ram (1 dimm), 100gb hdd, dvd-rw, 128mb video, wsxga+, bluetooth, the big battery, 3 years warranty and 3 years completeCare... for a total shipped costs of $1500

I just saw the configuration of the 600M with the 1.7ghz, gig ram (although 2 dimms, and slower), 60gb hdd, 32mb video, no real warranty, etc. for prob around $900 shipped w/taxes

I know the two are worlds apart, but should i cancel that order, save $600 an put it into a home system and just use the 600m as the laptop? (the 600m seems like a hell of a deal.)

    Advice either way is appreciated

It depends on what's important to you. I wouldn't have spent as much as you did in warranties and adding RAM after-market is cheaper. The 600M won't be good for gaming though.

Whenever I configure my laptops I always choose at least 3 years complete warranty.
This would include the accident protection.
IMHO laptops need the added protection especially when you are transporting the unit from place to place.
After spending $1000-3000 on a brand new laptop and finding out your kid knocked it off the table or you spill coffee on it that added protection just gave you the piece of mind a nice warranty will give.
Desktops are a different story since they are much easier and cheaper to replace a bad part plus your not carrying it around at all.

    Just my 2 cents.

well, like u said, they are 2 diff machines. i would take a step back and think about which screen you would prefer. if u up'd the warranty on the 600, it'd start to creep up to the price of the 6000 so in a sense, you're kind of comparing apples and oranges. one thing to think about is that the 600 is an older model that some have reported heat issues with. i have the 6000, use my computer daily, leave it on for days at a time and never have heat issues.

Personally I would just stick with the 6000. The 6000 is very nice and has a very good built to it, but I'm not sure if it is worth 1500 for it. For 1500 you could upgrade to a 9300 or possibly even a latitude.

As for the warranty, I'm normally suggest to go with 2 years max. Most problems occur within the first year, and if you use your laptop heavily, after 2 years, you'll probably want to upgrade. If you have no intentions on upgrading to newer technology, then staying with the 3years would be the better option.

    thanks for the advice..
I'm a student, and will be for the enxt 2.5 years, so as much as I hate dishing out for extended warranties, and accident protection things, I am just not in a good position for encounter that cost, whatever it happens to be, in the next 2-3 years. Plus, to use my $750 coupon, I needed to get the price of the laptop to $2000. Other than maxing out RAM to 2 gigs which has no real value to m (not for an extra $200, i don't think), or upgrading to a 2.13 ghz processor (for $350 or so), I figured the warranty will have the biggest beneft... PLus, in essense, my minimum was 1250, so I'm only couple hundred over :)

I'm pretty excited about the 6000, just needed some reassurance, I guess :)

What else has the 15.4 WSXGA+ screen, similar components (1.7ghz, 100gb hdd, 1gb ddr2 ram, dvd-rw), and the same warranty for $1500, and is not refurbished? I looked - let me know what I missed..
