I am set on getting this....

    XPS m1330:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 (2MB cache/1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB)
Standard Display with 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
    120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS

    with deal/discounts: $1554 (w/o tax/shipping)

i opted for a cheap configuration as i will be using this for college, meaning web browsing, word processing, movies, *light/casual* gaming, etc... typical college stuff...

i am aware that the processor i chose is the cheapest one, but it will be enough for typical use right? i wont be playing new gen games or anything, just old games that i occasionally play, so it wouldnt matter too much?

Looks good to me... the CPU should be okay with your type of usage. :)

Looks fine to me as well, although I would recommend the LED screen instead if you can dish out the extra money (maybe downgrade your memory to 1 GB and purchase cheaper memory outside and install it yourself, which should be user-friendly)

Yesssssss... I second the LED screen.

Battery savings/Brighter Display/1.3 - 0.87 = 0.43 inches of savings (i did that off the top of my head ... not exactly sure of the numbers)

hmm yea i get a LED recommendation a lot, but for me, weight isnt a big factor, and battery life isnt a huge concern... however, does the standard display make it hard to see or somthing? As long as i can see whats on the screen on the standard display, i should be fine with it.

I trying to be REALLY conservative with money as i also spent $3k on a desktop =/

Yep... as a college kid, you are $$$ conscious. You should stick with the cheapest you can get and save the money for something more useful (heh heh heh).

Well looking at the bright side, not getting an LED screen should definitely speed up your shipping date!

Yep... CCFL (regular LCD screens) don't have an INSANE backlog unlike other laptops. If you want yours to be shipped in August, then get a CCFL display. If you get an LED one, you will be looking for a September shipping date!!!

Get the LED screen, its what makes the M1330 special. I would get it even at the cost of going 1GB.. you can upgrade later when you've forgotten the big spend :S

That price doesn't seem like anything special, especially considering people were able to get better configurations than that (including the LED display) for about the same price as you quoted. Now I can't say for sure how they managed to get the price, be it from coupons, haggling or what have you, but I think you may be able to do a little better. Call them up and see what they can do.

I agree. I have no issue with the config but it seems like your paying a couple hundred too much. I got the configuration in my sig with 1gb of ram for about $100 more than what your paying without tax.

btw i got the config through school discount, with also comes with a 3-in-1 printer, 3 yr warranty and other goodies, which i think is a pretty good deal.
