What are the most important things I need to change/remove on a new Vista laptop?

Other than uninstalling Norton and installing Anti-virus/anti-spyware, of course.

    EDIT: And it's a Dell Inspiron 1720.

Try Decrapifier ( http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/) for getting rid of the bloatware that comes with a PC. You could also just reinstall Vista completely, if you have the disks.

Weird......my 1520 didn't come with any bloatware really. It came with pre-installed Vista Home Premium 32-Bit along with the re-installation disc.
