I order an XPS m1210 notebook on august 31. Expected delevry was 15 september. 14 sept they called home I wasnt there. Sept 15 I look on the website and my order was cancelled. I waited 1h30 on the phone to get service in french. Finally I learned that my order was still there but I had to send my credit card info in India by email because they lost it on their system (this is not secure at all, but i've done it). Finally I received my notebook september 26 (not that bad)
but my notebook cant boot 1 times on 3. I run Dell diagnostic and it appear my HD is in fault. (error code : 0f00:075 IDE device failed: the self-test failed the read portion of the test) (also got 0f00:065D and 0f00:0244)
Can I expext compensation from Dell? I was quite pissed at them for poor service, but I didnt make a case out of it since it was resolved, but now with this broken HD, it really suck.![]()
Should I send my notebook back for refund or could I expect a new hard drive (I really liked to have a faster one with no extra charge, is it realistic?)
sorry for the long post, any "support" comment appreciated.

p.s my hd is a WD 5400 rpm (WD1200BEVS-75LATO)

if your hard drive is indeed faulty, they should be able to send you a replacement and you can swap them out yourself so that you don't have to send the entire notebook in for them to do it
you are free to try to negotiate any type of "compensation" for your "troubles"; it's up to you and your negotating skills as to what, if any, "compensation" you may receive
if you are truly unhappy with the situation, you are quite free to return the notebook (you have a limited time to do this, so hurry) for a full refund. since there is a fault with the computer (the HD) you will probably be able to get a full refund (as opposed to, for example, not liking the color or something which would probably result in you having to pay a restocking fee).
it would also help if you could describe the problem more completely. it's quite possible that there is nothing at all wrong with the HD and it may just need to be reseated. when you say it won't boot, what does that mean? will it get to POST? do you get an error message? how far into the boot do you get? do any (power, HD, etc.) lights come on? do you hear the HD spinning/spooling up?

Hi,
I live in Quebec (Canada). I can speak english, but it's not perfect.
Im using the laptop right now, it doesnt make strange noise. It usally "blackout" just before windows should open. Its happen when I reboot or when I power my computer. Its happening 30% of the time. I got 3 types of error for my Hd with Dell diagnostic (fn+power, one of them is for a bad sector "msg block 143060349")
I have a new problem today. I made a backup of two DVD today, speed was fantastic, my desktop system was still on the first one, but when I tried the third one it stopped and my DVD drive maded strange noise (it was stuck) Now I can't even play DVD with it, make a lot of noise and stop playing or have a lot of difficulty doing it (Im running this DVD on my desktop system with not problem)
My DVD drive is a TS-L632D (TSST corp). Am I very unlucky or it happen frequently with DELL notebook?

im in quebec too, ordered my laptop on sept 15th, got it on sept 26th. quite fast but they messed up on one software cd i had ordered along with it. they got order but i guess forgot to ship it out with the laptop as expected delivery date for both was sept 26th.

I answered a survey about custommer service that Dell sent me, I clicked on the french link and I had to answer the survey in english.
The service reprensentative who I spoke with in french on the phone was very professionnal, but I think to wait on the line for 1h30 is too much and I know I could have waited like 2 minutes to speak to somoene in english. Well at least they offer some support in french. -
my english is better than my french, so i spoke to somone in ottawa in english. very professional and gave me an excellent deal.
