Order delayed a week for no reason

Order date: 6/28
Est. ship date: 7/16
Est. deliver date: 7/17

Those were the same dates until earlier today, I receive an e-mail from Dell, telling my order has been DELAYED by a week for no apparent reason.



I called them and they said they had an LCD screen shortage. But that doesn't make sense, because wouldn't it have been a shortage after the initial purchases? I made my purchase pretty early, and people who have ordered later even received theirs sooner.

I am very upset about this. I'm about to have a hissy fit.

 

I hope not, i have the same specs as you just a different color....

kinda similar to me, i ordered a unmodified Vostro 1400 smart-value package on the 10th and its still in pre production stage 6 days later. While some people that ordered the same package later than me somehow have their computers in production already,,,, weird

Hmm, similar issue, still in production since July 2nd, but the status page still says July 17 est. Delivery Date. My father ordered it so i don't know if he got an email about delay.
Mines a Canadian order. I sent an email to Dell today though, though I guess its the screen, I'm really starting to hate Dell.

 

You think I'd be able to get any compensation? What I'd really like to do is completely redo my order and get the remote and BT but I'm on the EPP and probably won't get my student discount reapplied.

 

Give it a try. I'm on the EPP. I found out yesterday that the 1680x1050 displays are backordered too, so I changed my order. I figured since I'm going to be waiting no matter what display I choose, then I'll get the 1440x900. I also upgraded to the 256MB videocard AND the 7200rpm hard drive. My order actually came out $5 cheaper. If you deal with your same sales rep and they are good, then you should be alright with the discounts. Just explain your frustration, and make sure he/she knows that it's not directed at them. My sales rep, and another rep he works with have both been totally awesome and I've made them jump through flaming hoops like a couple of circus bears.

 

I order my Dell 1420 for my friend on July 3rd...I received the laptop on July 16. I must say I got the laptop pretty early...the expected ship date was August 3rd. You should prolly call them up and get some type of compensation =).
