When ordering a Dell computer, is it better to place an order over the phone or the internet? Does it matter? If so, what are the advantages of either?

    Thanks!

I have never ordered a Dell over the phone. I have purchased probably between 5-10 Dell computers, and it has always been online. I just liked that I can configure it myself instead of talking with some guy and worrying about him selecting the wrong option.

Can't you ask for some more discounts if you talk to a rep? Thats the word on the street. As far as I know, they use the same website we use to order from my recent interactions with the sales reps.

Ummm no, you get better deals over the internet. Dell phone sales and internet sales are two completely separate divisions.

Use the Internet to configure a laptop, put it in your shopping basket and apply any relevant coupons you can find on the Internet.

Then phone up Dell and ask a few questions about the laptop. If you sound uncertain, they'll sometimes give you an additional discount to tempt you.

I have spoken with a Dell rep and they are allowed to give discounts live on the phone. It may or may not be better than whatever coupon you have online. Either way it doesn't hurt to talk to them right?

After having placed an order over the phone I would never do it again. For me it was nothing but trouble with orders being cancelled for no reasons and nevr being able to reach the original sales rep.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the fast replies!

I will probably configure online, then call and see what I can get :)

I always order over the phone. Sometimes the Reps give you small discounts or free next day shipping if you ask for it.

Just configure online and then talk to the rep.

I configured on my own online several times, and spoke to a few reps ~ receiving a few quotations.

I ended up ordering on the phone via Dell EPP because I got the *best bang for my buck* per se. ;) :D

Ultimately, the choice is yours..how you want to order your new notebook!

Good luck to you!!! And congrat's on your *future new purchase* ;) :D
