Well, it was all in the timing. I played around with the screen options while "not yet" ordering an M1530 over several days, then suddenly a 1920x1200 screen appeared as an option! I didn't know enough about resolutions on a 15.4" to think this would be a problem (small text) for my aging eyesight so I completed the order with the 1920x1200 screen. I did think that the Full HD screen would be great with the Blu-ray drive, that I also ordered, plus the overall real estate advantages the 1920x1200 would give!

Hmmmm, did I make a mistake?
I will be using the computer for many different applications.
    1) Architectural Cadd
    2) Business programs; Excel, Word.. Quickbooks.
    3) Movies (Blu-ray too)
    4) Internet surfing, emails.. etc..
    5) Gaming

I have been having second thoughts after reading so much negative feedback about the small print issues of this size resolution. I do wear reading glasses most of the time, because my vision is shot upclose.

Note: Just curious, why would anyone order a lower resolution screen with the Blu Ray option, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a HD Full resolution picture that the Blu ray gives.

The notebook is coming at the end of the week and is still in production.
I don't want to pay restocking fees on a $3,000 + computer if I need to return it after discovering I made a mistake!

The text is going to be very small. Though you should see it before you make any judgments.

You don't need 1080p for movies on such a small screen. It's hard enough to distinguish between 720p and 1080p on a 40-50 inch bigscreen. It's indecernable on a 15" midget screen.

You won't have trouble reading text if you aren't retarded. You just have to resize it. But Lithus is right, the quality advantages of 1080p are virtually indiscernible on a 15.4 inch screen. But it's up to you.

you can always up the text size using windows settings, Most applications will zoom too - for example ie and office. I think you'll find it's not an issue once you have it configured the way you want it.

Annoyingly I placed an order on the 8th of this month for the 1680 x 1050 screen and alarmingly this appears to have been discontinued. I have since sent an email to Dell to see if they will "upgrade" me to the new resolution. Hopefully this will speed up the process of them making the laptop too as my estimated delivery date is the 6th of May!

You can set your resolution to a smaller one with the nvidia control pannel. So if you dont want the text to be too small just adjust your resolution in the control panel. No big deal really...

Except it will look horrible. Your text will be fuzzy and overall display quality will be very unsatisfying. Better off to adjust fonts and icons in windows settings at the screen's native resolution.

I wouldn't do that. The screen will look like crap if you don't run it at its native resolution. Increasing the font and icon size would be the only route I would go.

What about games on this resolution? Crysis, Half Life 2, Call of Duty 2
I read that the video card (256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT )will have a hard time playing these at the native resolution.

    Thanks for your help.

There is nothing to worry about. Determine if it is too small once you receive the computer. DELL's 21-day window will allow you to return it for a full refund once you decide you don't like it. You can even reorder it in the meantime that way your refund and new charge cross at the same time. It'll take an extra two weeks but you'll have the exact system you want.

    Thanks everyone for the comments...
One other question; If I've added all my programs and data and then decide to return the unit within the 21 day period do I reinstall Dell's defaults back to the way it was when it was shipped to me? If so, is there a default disk to be able to do this quickly?
    Thanks again!!!

No you do not have to delete your progs and restore dell defaults before sending the laptop back (if you decide to do this). Dell will format the HDD when they recieve it back. I agree the res. will be awesome for architectual CAD but will not be so hot for reading websites/docs but don't worry, Dells 21 day return policy has your back! :)
