Hey just wanted to say thanks for everyones great answers to the couple of questions I asked and just all the other threads that have some great info.
I placed an order for a Dell Inspiron 9300 a few days ago. I used the $750 off couple. I'm in Canada but I ordered it from the States. I found a friend who had a place to ship to in Ogdensburg, NY. I compared my computer to the same one I would have gotten on the .ca site and I figure I saved about $500 CAN. The best deal I could have gotten here is about $250 CAN off.
Here are the specs...I think I hit most things on the button. Tell me what ya think.
Dell Inspiron 9300,
Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz/533MHz FSB)
17 inch UltraSharp Wide ScreenXGA+ Display
256MB, DDR2, 533MHz 1 Dimm (adding another 1GB from Newegg.com)
256MB NVIDIA 6800
60GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g,54Mbps)
80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
1 Year Limited Warranty

Excellent...but I see alot of people making (what I think) is a mistake.
I wouldnt add 1Gb to your 256.
Your 9300 runs a dual channel memory config. You need 2 matched sticks in order to take advantage of those benefits. You will likely get better performance from buying 2ea 512Mb for 1gb total...than you would running 1256Mb.
Or...better yet, buy 2 sticks of 1Gb for 2Gb running in dual channel. -
Ya I actually thought about that for a bit. The reason I went for the 1 GB is so I could easily add another 1 GB and get 2 GB dual channel later. If I got 2 x 512 and found it too slow it'd be alot more costly to upgrade to 2 gb dual channel.
I figured I'd see how it went right off the bat with 1.2 gb non-dual channel and go from there. I'm not planning on doing anything too heavy straight away. -
congrats, and remember, ram size affects how many programs can be run at once, not program (or game) speed
the only one time it will affect game speed is when you dont have enough ram and it runs off your hard drive (bad idea). Most games require 512, and BF2 is the only one I know of that recommends 1gb. Enjoy the laptop
Ordered 9300 good for gaming...thanks!
