    Hey guys

I purchased dell e1505 on 5th June and received it today i.e. 13th June and on the laptop it says Inspiron 6400 which has left me shocked. According to my understanding 6400 was previous model and it has been replaced by e1505 (correct me if I’m wrong).

So what should I do now?

    BTW here are the specifications

    1.66 GHz dual core processor
    1 GB RAM
    100 GB HD
    Bluetooth
    Integrated video card

And I paid $735 including taxes and shipping.

6400 is the business edition of the E1505, though I have no clue of the difference. I would definitely give Dell a call though.

The only major difference that i can think of between the 6400 & E1505 is just the numbering. They are the exact same laptop internally and externally, but the numbering system is different because one is offered in the Home Section and one is offered in the Small business section.

The Intel 945GM is the chipset on the motherboard - it's basically the hub where all information passes through in the computer. The "GM" on the end of it designates that the laptop has integrated graphics - those integrated graphics would be provided by the Intel GMA950. It is integrated into the motherboard and coupled with the chipset.

Nothing wrong with your order by the looks of it, and that's a great deal for the money. Congrats.

Are the specs the same at least? Did the 6400 you got have the same configuration as the E1505 you ordered?

    Thanks everyone for the reply

Yes all the configuration is same.

    ChazMan421
In the video configuration no where it says that Intel GMA950 all it says is Intel 945 chipset family. I'm really confused here.

As someone said 6400 is offered by Dell Small Business and E1505 is offered by Dell home

I selected all the configuration on Dell home site but my account was made with Dell small Business (due to previous purchases) could that be the reason for all this confusion??

one more thing how can i check if the processor is dual core?

    in the setup it says
    current speed 1.00 GHz
    Maximum speed 1.66GHz

    multicore support yes

It could be. The only way to find out for sure what happened is to call Dell up and see what they say. They could have made a mix up. It could have been because you are a small business customer normally, although I haven't heard of dell doing that.

Dell systems if you have certain power management schemes on, it makes the processor run slower to save battery life, go to Power Properties in Control Panel and set the power scheme to Home/Office Desk

That is exactly how Intel names their combo chipsets. They usually refer it to by their chipset family.
Loo up in your Task Manager(right click on the task bar), under the "Performance" tab there should 2 graphs showing the cpu usage history and the current cpu usage percent.

You should see something like this picture....
    http://www.hwupgrade.it/articoli/1193/screenshot_4_s.jpg

Alternatively you can also look up the device manage and see 2 cpus listed under Processor category.

As explained before, they are the same machines except the 6400 is sold as a business model and the e1505 is sold as the consumer model. the only difference being the label. They might have just mixed up with the plastic chassis part in the factory. You can ask for an exchange if you want to but it is going to be the exact same laptop. Moreover the 6400 is not out of production you can still order it....

Look at the differences(or lack of) yourself...

Stop worrying. You got exactly the right system - as mentioned before the 6400 and the e1505 are the exact same computer. The 6000 was the one that was discontinued recently and was replaced by the 6400/e1505. I actually ordered my 6400/e1505 off of the small business site because I could get a better deal there at the time, and my computer has a 6400 printed on it.

As said before, they're exactly the same. In Europe (Netherlands) this laptop is only referred to as 'Inspiron 6400'. I believe the E1505 name is only used in the USA.

they stopped production on the Dell 6000, not the 6400. It is the exact same system as the E1505. You just have a different label.
