Got this from the outlet. It was designated as "certified refurbished."

XPS M1210 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)
    2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
60 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
12.1 in Notebook Screen (Intg. web cam)
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
    1500 Wireless Card
    Bluetooth Wireless Card 355
    9 Cell Primary Battery

Price was $1,469. Was it a good deal? I'm so used to using coupons with Dell that it didn't feel right.

I realize the HD is a weak point. I don't need tons of space, so 60GB is probably alright, but 7200 would have been nice. I kinda jumped on this and maybe wasn't patient. For some weird reason I thought the "1500 wireless" was the built in EV-DO thing, but it's not. Can someone explain what it is to me? I've been really out of the loop.

I'm not sure; I know it's a nice laptop, but with the talk of the new platform around the corner, the upcoming C2D price drops, memory price drops, etc, was $1500 too much to spend?

Let's face it, technology changes all the time so its impossible to keep up, dont smack yourself in the head if you didn't get the *latest*

i've been looking at the M1210 for some time now and your deal seems pretty dam good. the 1500 Wireless Card is the new N draft from dell. It offer greater range and speed than traditional 802.11a/b/g networks but it's not final yet and the standard is yet to be announced. good news it's backwards-compatible so even if it fails horribly you can still connect to the good ol' a,b,g bands.

the actual only worry would be the 60 gb hard drive. But then again that can be easily replaced so there's no worry's. i'd say in all it's a good price (including taxes and all)

I received mine in my sig for 1300 and it was a Dell outlet, I think yours was a great deal, especially with the 2 bg ram!

This is a very good deal, as long as the refurb part does not break right after the warranty expires :)

My roommate has a refurb D420 from the outlet, and she is really happy with it. She spilled water on it three month ago and her D420 got replaced by another one with more memory and hard drive space. Moreover the replacement came with a different service tag which had 4 years of complete care and 4 years of golden tech support!!! (her old one only had one year of complete care)

I do not know how warranty works with refurbished laptops from the outlet, but apparently my roommate got 3 years of complete care and golden tech support for free. I don't know whether it's because that D420 was from the outlet, or because D420 is under small business so it has better hardware support.

I guess it was an alright deal. I just keep seeing other systems on the outlet for that I feel are a better deal.

Your's seems really good. Did it come w/ 1.5GB? I mean you can get a gig of DDR2 for like $60 or so in some places now, so $1300 for that systems seems really good. Did you get the 9 cell?

One thing I really wanted was XP pro w/ the option to upgrade to vista business. Will I feel like I'm missing a lot of features w/ home premium vs. business? I looked up the differences between the two and one thing said that w/ home prem. you don't have "control over installation of device drivers." I just don't want a dumbed down OS.

It looks like a very good deal - The t7200 and the dedicated graphics options are the most expensive items you have there. Plus, you are getting 2GB of ram. Good choice.

Considering the processor, RAM and GPU, I think that was one heck of a deal!

Hey guys I have a question...

    I have an E1505 that I bought before this M1210 which I haven't opened.

It has the 100GB 7200RPM HD w/ Vista Ultimate. I am going to probably just sell it on Ebay, but I was wondering how easy it would be to swap out the HDs between the 1505 and the 1210 so I could have Ultimate on the 1210? Does Dell ship these PCs w/ a disk that lets you do a clean install?

Yes you can swap the harddrive from the M1210 and the E1505. It's very easy. On the M1210, you need to take off the protective cover off the harddrive first before you swap out the harddrives. The protective cover must stay on the harddrive that will be going into the M1210.

The E1505 doesn't have a protective cover so you just take it out and replace it.

probably the same reason you bought a E1705 without a dvd burner and asked if you could buy one afterwards?

I'm a full time college student only working part time so I make every effort possible to save where I can while also getting what I want. $50 here and $100 there really add up. Just because I bought it doesn't mean I can't refuse delivery and not be charged a dime, or even call up Dell and start complaining and threatening to return and have them give me credit or free coupons to keep the system. Why do you feel the need to submit useless responses to threads? Just move on...

Sirius_GTO, what exactly does the protective cover on the 1210 HD do? Is it there for shock resistance or something, b/c it is the XPS line?

So, let's say I take the HD w/ Ultimate out of the 1505 that has never been booted and put it in the 1210, what is going to happen as far as drivers and stuff? Will it still go straight to the EULA screen and allow me to proceed as normal?

Looks like a good deal. Vista should run very smoothly with the 2GB of ram.

Does the $1,469 include any kind of warranty?

Just the standard 1 year w/ 1 year onsite and 1 year XPS HW support (whatever that is..I assume a special hotline for XPS customers?). Yea I wish it had complete care to!

I only have the 6 cell, and it only came with 1 gig, I bought a 1 gig stick online for 70 bucks. I also just have the 1 year NBD warranty.

I got the upgrade to Vista Home Premium Friday, so even though it was a Refurb, the express upgrade worked for me.

The hard drive carrier is what it's called. I'm not quite sure if there really is anything "protective" about it.

If you take the HD with ultimate out of your E1505, yes everything will be fine and you start up normally.

I know when you swap out harddrives with XP already loaded, it'll give you some crap like "major hardware changes detected. Please enter cd key" blah blah blah.
