It was XPS Power Monday Sale day. LOL. They sucked me in with that. Here's what I ordered:

    XPS M1530, Midnight Blue
    Vista Ultimate
    T8300, 2.4 GHZ
    4 GB RAM
    1680x1050 Display
    8600M GT Graphics
    250 GB 5400 rpm drive
    Intel N Card
    Bluetooth + Bluetooth Stereo Headphones
    regular 6 Cell Battery
Sale Day special included 2 yr in-home service and 2 yr accidental damage and Lojack Theft Protection

$1587.00, not including tax and shipping. (I paid $69 for next day shipping because I can't stand wating 3 days or so after I know it's on its way. Drives me crazy. )

Seems an OK deal to me. Better than what I was able to configure yesterday and a longer warranty to boot.

A couple of questions regarding order status and estimated ship dates. It's showing an estimated ship date of 5/28. I realize that it might ship sooner, or later. But does the estimated date ever really change at all, or might it continue to say 5/28 for a week then just suddenly ship?

But the real question I have is with regards to the Dell BH200 EDR Stereo Headphones that I tossed in there on a whim. I know they say "stereo", but are they really suitable for music listening and watching DVD's, or are they mostly for voice applications like VOIP? I watch a lot of DVD's on my notebook and really hope that these can be an alternative to wired headphones. Anyone?

    Now the waiting begins. :(

Nice!!! And, Congrat's on your purchase!!! ;) :)

Doesn't it feel good to be "sucked in" ;) :p  LOL...At least you got it ordered!!! :) Once, you receive it you will be happy!

The estimated shipping date, is as states "estimated" Meaning, that is could ship sooner, or later. Depending on how long the build process takes. ;)

And, the waiting game is the funnest part! You will have fun checking your online order status, and phone status!!! ;) :)

    Congrat's again!!! ;)

Hey fountainhead- I can't answer the question about the headphones but can give you some insight on the shipping. When you configured your XPS, did any of your options give you a "may delay shipping" message? There have been industrial shortages for LCD's as well as for some HD's. I think you are ok in terms of the LCD. To my knowledge, only the LED's and the full high def options were on backorder. I have read that your HD was on backorder though. If you are in the clear on these messages, expect your XPS to ship sooner than your 5/28 est ship date. The website may not change from in production, but you can call the automated order status line and find out what stage you are in (kitting, build, testing, boxing, shipping). As for me, my XPS with similar specs to yours was ordered on 4/22 and I am getting it tomorrow. The delay was due to my LED option.

Cancel your order and find a better company. Dell sucks. You aren't getting a deal either, they just want to make you think you are.

Quality or not, it's irrelevant to Dell being a good company, they are not.

Nope. Had I encountered that I'd likely have altered the order, unless it was something critical. I can be patient when deciding to place an order, but I've got very little patience once it's placed. :) No way I could check a status scren every day for 6 weeks or something.

Yeah, OK. My XPS M140 has been a solid notebook, and I received good service when it was repaired under warranty. As far as the deal I got, well I'm sure it's not the best deal anyone has ever gotten, but I'll say that I wasn't able to spec out a similar machine for less on any other major vendor's site over the last two days.

    Yeah. That's right.

I said I was impatient, not that I was unwilling to wait for the specs I desire. The fact is that there just aren't any pre-built notebooks that met those specs, so it's not as if I could have gone down to Best Buy and picked one up. Gotta order it from somewhere. What makes Dell so much worse than Toshiba or HP? I mean, since you're so critical of Dell and the price I paid, why not share with me what identically spec'd notebook is currently available for less?

You haven't shopped around then. You can get an Asus for less with a better video card shipped next day. There are plenty of options out there.
