Well first of all, nice to be a member here also it is my 21st birthday but thats a tad off topic.

    I just got this:

    Inspiron E1505, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB/2.00GHz/667MHz)
    15.4 Inch TrueLife Wide-screenWXGA, for Inspiron 6400/E1505
    1GB, DDR2, 533MHz 2 Dimm for Inspiron 6400/E1505
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory, for Inspiron 6400/E1505
80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 6400/E1505

    Total: $1,073.00 w/ TAX

Will that run CSS or Fear on some decent setting? Think I got it for a good price? I have a main gaming rig however when I do travel I love to take my home center with me whether that be music or games.

Second question, is the x1400 the BEST video that I could get for my laptop? I have heard of people installing video cards into their laptops.

Third, when I get it how should go about reinstalling so I don't have all that preinstalled crap on it dell puts on their PCs? Does their computer by default come with a clean Windows MCE disk?

    Thanks for your replies

I play BF1942 and GTR very well on mine. Not sure how those games compare to CSS/Fear, but, the E1505 w/X1400 is not totally helpless in games. My lappy seems to run Cinema 4d and 3d Studio Max pretty well.

It does seem that the X1400 is not upgradeable, based on other threads I've seen here.

My E1505 came with an XP MCE.

What I did was, used the computer for an hour or two, to make sure that it worked. Go into the device manager and see what components you seem to have, ie Broadcom ethernet, Intel wireless, Ricoh CD reader, Conexant modem, Sigmatel audio, etc. Go ahead and maybe download all the drivers and burn a CD or something. I just skipped the Dell CD, I think it installs something, and I wanted the latest internet versions and I skipped Dell/Ati X1400 drivers and went straight for the Omega drivers.

Then format and clean install making note of the Media Direct partitions. Run Windows update about 10 times (lol) and then install the other drivers.

Computers runs MUCH better after clean install, I had a lot of yuck on mine. SQL server trial was even on there and running! I was like, wtf!

Enjoy, mine is exceeding my expectations so far. Core2Duo FTW!

I got my E1505 and when it arrived I did find quite a bit of bloatware installed on it. Follow the directions that SouthernGirl wrote up....it'll walk you thru the entire reload and answer any questions you may have. I play CS with all settings on High and I play HL2 with most settings on High also and have no problems at all.

Unfortunately you wont be able to upgrade your video card, and the x1400 is the best card you can get in the E1505 but at the same time the x1400 is no slouch for light gaming.

Happy Birthday. To answer your last question you should reformat and then reinstall the OS. If you do a search on the forum there is a thread that will walk you through it.

I think you got a pretty good deal. IF you purchased the laptop some time last week there was a 30% coupon and using a epp you can get a pretty nice deal (extra 4-8% off) I'm getting mine today and I got the exact same specs as yours except i got 2ghz of ram for 917 after taxes. I'm so excited cant wait but still i think you got a good deal

protective cases for the E1505 are there anymore less expensive ones aside from on dell.com. 50 dollars I think it a lot for a cover.

The X1400 is the best one Dell offers for its E1505. By installing a new GPU you will void the warranty, I think.

EPP stands for Employee Purchase Program and is basically exclusive deals offered by manufacturers to your company's employees.

I ordered a Charcoal Leather quick snap cover for my E1705 and like it a lot even though it is a tad expensive for a plastic cover. That's the only type of cover that Dell offers though.

If you search the forums for "Charcoal Leather" and "Carbon Fiber" you'll see lots of pics.
