Ugh Im tired of these "is this a good deal" posts. They're all the same deals for the specs if you use the same coupons available for Dell.

For the most part it looks like you got an identical system to mine, except I paid $1484 with shipping and tax.

I would recomend getting less ram for 2 reasons. First of all, it is cheaper to buy ram other places. Second, Dell is shipping these units out with 400Mhz ram. The 6000 should be able to handle 533Mhz ram. Another member of this board should be confirming this soon.

The 6000 I ordered has the same specs. It is schedule for the 14th.

Its funny, people ask if this is a good deal all the time. Not saying its bad, but with Dell they run a different promotion on a weekly basis, with awesome deals about once a month. Guaranteed when you buy your system, down the road someone will buy the exact same one for cheaper with Dell, or just about any maker of product. As the cycle continues...

bugmenot is right, Dell is kind of screwing you over for only giving you 400mhz DDR2 ram. Your 6000D can handle 533mhz DDR2 sticks, just make sure if you want 1 GB to buy 2 from the same manufacturer. I would just buy 256mb of ram and then watch pricewatch.com, newegg.com or even ebay and pick up the 533mhz DDR2 ram, trust me its worth it.

Also the install will be a piece of cake, usually unscrew 2 screws and pop out old ram, put in new ram and screw lid back on! Done!

I agree with guitar guy here, going to 533Mhz from 400Mhz RAM is not going to make a noticeable difference.

in reality your not going to see the difference in performance with ddr2 400mhz or 533mhz unless your doing intense number crunching and the notebooks were side by side and maybe the notebook with the 533mhz may finish its task 2 seconds faster if that? Besides, the same specifications right now through Dell will cost $ 1926.00 which is a big difference from paying $1518.00 [ :D]

It will make a noticeable difference in games and video editing. Its about a 33% increase in performance, depending on your needs, is the only reason to warrant faster ram, but overall it will make your system run faster.

There is no way your going to see a 33% difference in performance in video editing or anything. Going from 400mhz to 533mhz? Both are DDR2 so that makes a difference right there. If one being DDR and one being DDR2 than I would say yes, there could be a slight noticable difference.

Also, the noticable difference between memory would be when you go from 512mb to 1gb then you will notice a difference in performance. Thats like saying you can notice a difference between a pentium 4 3.2GHz vs. a pentium 4 3.4GHz you will not be able to notice a difference in performance in these processors. Neither will you notice a difference between PC2-3200 and PC2-4200 ram.

There is more to performance than just speed of the RAM. 533Mhz is 33% faster than 400Mhz, but there is more to your system than RAM, like your video card and processor and hard drive, which are all constant on both systems.

Swapping out just the RAM won't make much of a difference. Someone in a post has already posted the benchmarks and it looks like while there is an improvement (I think 2900Mb/sec bandwidth with 533 over 2700Mb/sec with the 400) it doesnt warrant the hassle I think.

The 6000d I got is 15.4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050, 1.86Ghz Pentium M 750 (New Sonoma), 40GB HD (thats the one difference I think), x300 128MB Video, DVD Burner, 1GB of 400Mhz RAM (2 Dimms), and all the other standard stuff. I think I may have upgraded one of them optional software packages though I am not sure now.

    Hi guitar_guy,

I was very interested in your post as I ordered my system yesterday and was searching for reassurance that I got a fair price.
I spent ~ $50 dollars more, and did not get a monitor upgrade, 9 cell batt, IR remote, or 128 mb video.
I did call dell and they told me that if I got your order# they would match the price for me.
Please feel free to email me, or post on this topic. I sincerely appreciate any help you are willing to provide, and thanks for your informative post!

I am also looking to purchase new laptop and deciding between Latitude D810 and Inspiron 6000d. Does the I6000d with ATI x300 have upgradeable video card? or is it soldered on the board or is it removable card like my old I8200 has? I ask cause I though maybe some of you already looked inside of the I6000d. The latitude D810 does have upgradeable card, and for now I would only be able to get the base version with x300 64mb cause it's more expensive than i6000d, however they stripped if from firewire port which I like to have. I'm not sure about sturdiness between the two of those, but I guess the I6000d should be fine. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I just found an amazing coupon code and configured this same system and it came out to be cheaper than what I paid so I called Dell and they gave me a credit to my credit card the difference otherwise I told them I would ship back my system and configure it again for the price so they credited me.

Yes, it worked for me not once but twice. Last week, I configured the same system and I found an online coupon saving me about $100 from the price I originally paid. Today, about 5pm I called Dell cause I found a coupon code that says save $800 on a a inspiron from $1999 and up so I configured it again and called Dell and said, if they can't give me the difference from the price I have sitting in my Dell shopping cart I will send back this one and re-order it I told them the ball is in their court being I had 21 days for a return besides, HP/Compaq policy is they price match and guarantee the price of a custom built system for 30 days so why can't Dell? Well, in my case they did and now I will be recieving an Extra $63 back on my Visa bringing the system to $1395.00 no tax no shipping. The original was $1544 If you don't use the coupon code the system now is $1945 from what my configuration was.
