    Hi,
I did it .I just placed my order for the Dell 9300 so I could get that $800 coupon in...plus it changed to no tax from yesterday. It helps.

My question real quick is about which screen. I wanted the trulife of coarse. Mainly I browse the internet. I watch movies 3 times a month on my notebook. I am not a heavy game player but I do play. My concern is would I really be comfortable reading/browsing with the graphics being so small? I chose the WXGA at the last second...but depending how quick and what I hear from any of you, I'll change it. I really had no doubts that I wanted the more extreme display but I need to be practical. I spend 12-15 hrs daily mainly browsing w/4 hours of games.

Please, all answers/suggestions would be deeply appreciated but only if you actually own the Dell 9300 right now.

    Thanks in advance,

    Heartofgold [ :)]

Well I just got mine. The screen is very vibrant so all of the colors appear very vividly. The down side is that it is shiny so it can reflect. sitting here if I stare at it I can see the lights from the kitchen which are reflected in the windows of the Living Room.

For me I have to stare at it to see it but if you are a fanatic about such things you may want the other screen. It shows things like the aquarium screen saver very well though. Dvds also look quite nice.

I am very happy so far. I bought the big battery and it used about half of it doing all of the install (you get the machine needing an initial install) and then updates and playing around probably ran for 2 hours and I woukd guess the disk never stopped spinning.

doesn't even seem warm to the touch, though I haven't checked the bottom. My keyboard is tight and has none of the problems I read about from someone else.

    Hey HeartofGold:

Me, again. I want to add to what has already been said here. I think you're better off with the WXGA screen than the upgraded WUXGA+. If you're reading more than gaming, you'll probably want the WXGA, anyway. You did good.

I agree with previous message: Keyboard is good, and the computer does not get warm (runs cool, actually).

When you boot up the laptop for the first time, it has to go through a bunch of installation stuff from Dell and Windows. Doesn't take more than a few minutes to do it (no work on your part other than hitting a key here and there). You should have Windows check for any updates. I didn't order MS Office and, of course, the laptop came with WordPerfect Productivity Pack. Unfortunately, there was nothing on the desktop or in Programs for me to open the software. I had to get the CD out and reinstall it, and then it was fine. That was the only complaint I had.

Basically I agree with all of this. Simplistically you answer some questions and it grinds for a few minutes. You have to connect the wireless network, I got Media Center there is a small install there. I got BlueTooth ( a wise investment I think) it also has a small install thing. (you could construe this to mean configuration.)

I got a MS Bluetootk mouse whixh is pretty neet. Just runs with the internal Bluetooth in the computer. Also got the Intel wifi. It has some magic which only works with these Pentium M cpus.

All in all the only problem I have is getting the dvd burner to work with Nero or dvd+rw. It does not seem to like these type of media. I have not had the chance to try dvd+r yet.

One thing to consider with the screen. Today I was in the LR which has more or less a wall of windows and the reflection in the screen was very noticable. If this is a problem for you I would think twice. At night / in doors no real problems. The screen is very crisp so setting the dpi high (it came that way) gives a very readable screen. My eyes ae shot, believe me I was worried but no problems.

I guess I missed the time crunch, but my opinion nevertheless is that you prob. did the right thing with getting the less exp. screen.

I have the truebright wuxga screen and it is very nice. Inittially it was not set to my liking, but I now have it set and I love it.

I work at home, so office lights are not an issure.

I almost called Dell to switch it to the one you are getting, but after I corrected the display settings I am happy.

Good luck, you will love your new Dell as I am completely happy after several weeks.

Just get the bigger battery. I did not and wish I did cause I have the nvidia card and with brightness up it only lasts 2.1 or so hours depending on brightness.

Sorry I couldn't respond fast enough, but I'm glad to hear that you switched the screen in time. Better to use that $125 for something you'll really benefit from. I don't think the upgraded screen would've made an ounce of difference in your situation. I'm envious that you have someone in Texas who can help you resolve some of the order issues, etc.

You sure have a lot of computers now! Maybe you should sell the others on eBay, or something. [ ;)]

So, what did you finally end up ordering?

I think you need the Norton AntiVirus more than the upgraded screen. As much as you are online, you need all the protection you can afford to buy. If you keep buying and selling computers, you're going to need to open your own business! Ha ha.

Oh, by the way... I wish I had YOUR connections! You got some good perks from that Dell rep!!! Geez! I got way less than you did and spent over $1800 by the time tax was added on. (But, I also got free 2-day shipping and 1 year of in-home technical support, which wasn't an option except through the small business section.)

Oh well. Everyone seems to get something different from day to day.

HeartofGold, as an excersize in futility try configuring your laptop with todays new 35% off coupon and see if there is a significant price difference. My configuration came down $200.00.

I know things, things that could bore people to death.
