    The options were:

    1.4 T5270 - base
    1.6 T5470 - +$75
    1.8 T7100 - +$130
    2.0 T7250 - +$160
    2.2 T7500 - +$300
    2.4 T7700 - +$575

I wanted to FUTURE PROOF my system as much as possible within reason, and only $30 more than the 7100 was seemed like a no-brainer. However, will this make my laptop heat up and get all noisy and/or would either the 5270, 5470, or 7100 have done just fine? Anything to save money would be nice. Its not too late to change my order as it doesn't ship until Friday.

(If it matters, its coming with the standard 2GB RAM, and installing more myself is certainly an option for me... and its coming with Vista, but two days after I ordered they're offering XP on it, and I'm wondering if I should switch.)

Performance-wise the T7250 will be barely faster than the T7100 (a difference you'll almost never notice), but for $30 I don't see why not. No, I don't think there'll be much heat difference between the two processors.

I wouldn't even consider 1.4 T5270 - base or 1.6 T5470 - +$75 because of their performance. The difference between 1.8 T7100 - +$130 and 2.0 T7250 - +$160 is somewhere in 11% speed increase range and price difference is less than 4% of total price of the laptop, so it is no-brainer to go with T7250 unless you have a very tight budget

p.s. remember that you can always upgrade the RAM and HDD, etc. but not a processor

p.s.s. for FUTURE PROOF I would get a better processor and less hard drive space / less RAM

I'd get the cheapest one with the 4MB cache, whichever that one is.

I have not been keeping up with the T7324324 numbers lately.

keep the 7250. amazing and cool processor. only 30 bucks... Better with this than a slower piece of hardware.

I wonder why the T7300 has somewhat disappeared. Too much demand?

You can upgrade the CPU, its just it'll probably cost you more than $30 in the future to upgrade it. Most laptop parts are going to be the cheapest if you purchase them right away. (RAM/HD/Wireless excluded)

I think the T7300 might be being phased out, but I really have no idea. Since when I ordered my D630 the price for a T7500 was exactly the same as for a T7300.

    I just ordered a Vostro 1400 with a T5470.... my old notebook had a TL-56 (AMD)

I'm assuming since its C2D that its better than the turion?
