Just ordered a new 1330 from dell and I had a few questions I was hoping you guys could answer. Is there the possibility that I could recieve one of those grainy screens people talk about here? You guys think I should call up dell and confirm what screen I'm getting? (I ordered the LED version). Also, there were past reports of a loud disk drive and I was wondering if that has been fixed over the past year or if it really was a problem or not. I remember seeing a video online and it did seem incredibly loud. Thanks.

i dont think that the brainless guys at dell will be able to tell which screen u are getting..... at most they may say its an 'intel' screen or a 'microsoft' screen :D

As far as I know LG is not a supplier of LED screens for the Dell m1330. The current suppliers include Toshiba, Samsung, and Chei Mei. In reality, there is no way to insure that you get a particular manufacturer's screen, and CS reps that promise this are either BSing you or simply trying to "satisfy the customer" (the only exception to this generalization are the tech support guys who send out the screen based on the part number you provide them with). That being said, if I were you, I would just recieve the m1330 with an open mind. In fact, if you don't know what screen you've got, it might even be better for you. Why?

Once you get your computer, turn it on and examine the screen. If you like it, by all means stick with it. If you don't then ask for a replacment. This way you are really looking at the quality of the screen rather than conforming to the negative bias created on some screen manufacturers if you had known which screen you were getting.

LG makes CCFL, not LED panels for the m1330.

I have had the loud eject issue with both Matsuhita and HL drives. The HL is probably a little louder than the Matsuhita.

Im getting this laptop as well soon, with the highest spec available.
Whats the difference between the normal and the LED screen? Is it just that the LED screen is brighter??

The LED screen is brighter, and physically thinner/lighter. The colors are usually a little better too b/c the LED give off a whiter (better) light. LED backlighting is also more energy efficient, but in reality you probably only gain a few minutes on battery life.

I have the Matsu****a ("Mat****a") drive and while a bit noisy, it's not even close compared to this one posted on Youtube.

EDIT: Gotta love the cursing/swearing filter. ;)

Okay, I just saw the YouTube video and it is not thaaaat loud or that high-pitched. It is loud enough that those sitting around you will notice. I think for the Hitachi-Liteon (HL) burner, there is a firmware update that supposedly fixes this lound noise. I personally have not tried it yet.

Awesome that its not as loud as this. Anyways, I guess I should say that I won't actually get to see this laptop until early may because I'm at school and my parents bought a new desktop with my laptop so they shipped everything home. Looking forward to it though ever since my old Inspiron 6000got stolen.
