I ordered an Inspiron 1720 2AM Friday morning, now here it is almost 72 hours later and I haven' received my confirmation email! I did email Customer Service 2 days ago and they said their records show an order in production, but still I want that confirmation email! I did get the email from Dell Financial Services (the one with the PDF file with terms and conditions). Does that mean I am approved and my machine actually is in production? UGH! This is my first time buying anything expensive online and I'm a little scared something isn't right.

call customer service, and ask for your customer number & order number. Then track it online....if you get those numbers and you can track it via the website (which will prob say "Pre-Prodcution" or "Processing" until its being packed up), then you can 100% guarantee its being built!

A few days ago I emailed Customer Service and they gave me my order number, I guess they used my email address to find it in their system. According to their order tracking page, my machine was ordered the 23rd, production date the 26th and is showing it's in the production phase.

Then what's the problem?! Yes you never got the confirmation e-mail, but it probably got lost! And all data on the internet has a "time to live" (number of times it can be sent from server to server before being chucked away), and I can almost guarantee that if DELLs automated system did e-mail it, and it still hasn't arrived, then it never will (it's got lost, and its "time to live" has ended, so it got chucked away)!

And no-one at DELL can send you another copy, cos its all automated!

You have a customer number & an order number, your order is in production...thats it. You have all the important details, and an invoice will arrive within 2 weeks of your system arriving, so forget about the confirmation e-mail!

Well...the confirmation email would have been nice, that way I could be 100 percent assured everything went through ok. Also I could have used it to see what options I chose, heh I forgot what I picked for the screen..Glossy or anti-glare, I can't quite remember.

customer service might be able to e-mail you a list of the specs you purchase, and you will be able to check it in the packing list when your order is being prepared for shipping!

but other than that, there is absolutly nothing that can be done...

I guess I'll just have to be patient....and I'm not usually a person with patience.

Well, if it means anything for ya!

I signed up with Dell to get an email confirmation when my new notebook shipped. I've had the notebook since yesterday, but I never got that email that it shipped

    UPDATE:

I called up customer service and initially said they had no record of my order (purchased online). The lady then did some digging around and found out there was a 'configuration error with windows xp' and that she'd transfer me over to sales to speak with an order broker. Once I got through I was informed that if theres a configuration problem with an online purchase that the sale doesn't get processed and ceases to exist (from the consumers pov). So I went ahead and ordered exactly what I wanted through the phone rep and got every thing straightened up very quickly. As soon as I got off the phone I had the confirmation email, and everything :)

    Let's just hope that the 1440x900 screen isn't b0rked!

    Update for me too:

My order is on the way now. Purolator's website it's in ground linehaul as of 1:30pm yesterday. Looks like the EDD of Dec. 7th is going to be pretty accurate, although if it were a few days early I certainly wouldn't mind :)

You people are so lucky. I order mine early saturday morning, and from what the CS agent told me, Dell's Manufacturing Department works 7 days a week, So Saturday and Sunday totally count. I'm supposed to get mine December 28! It's an estimate, specs on sig..

I swear I'd take sleeping pills to sleep for weeks if that was the case :D

Oh, and I received the confirmation email, but not the payment confirmation one :S

Dell was the worst. I have purchased over 12 computers from them and this last one was a horror. I ordered a M1330 and got no confirmation, nothing for three days. SO, I called sales and they said they could not find anything on it and took another order on the phone. Well right after that, I get order confirmation on the first.

After many calls to INDIA I get the one cancelled. The M1330 arrives and will not even turn on. I have waited for 7 days for the UPS driver to pick up to start the process of getting my money back and nothing. I have emailed a 100 times and no one will answer.

Today I will have my credit card company back the charge off my account, I bet that will get some one to act! I know the is the X-Mas season but Dell has lost it for me. I was scared to even order my M1730 from them so I ordered from a good dealer on eBay and had it the next day in perfect condition! I will never order from these bafoones again!
