The Vostro 1500 doesn't give you the option of Vista Home Premium, but instead offers Vista Business. Is Business like Home Premium but with a few more features? If given the choice, I would rather have Home Premium especially if it were cheaper, but unfortunately it's not offered on line. I tried calling Dell sales today, but evidently they don't work weekends. I hesitate to wait until Monday, fearing the current Vostro deal will have been pulled by then.

I was int he same exact dillema as you last night. I ended up ordering Ultimate because I wanted to make sure it wasn't gone. Business doesn't have some of the features of premium I wanted such as Media Center and some other features. I downgraded to the t5470 so I could order it right then.

Basically, in business you get some easy printer and fax connections, with some live chat thing.

But, in premium you get the really fun games and some DVD Thing with a media editor

the games are in business as well. just not installed by default.

business can lock your laptop's hard drive so no one can steal your info off of it if it is stole, it also has shadow copy which can bring back deleted files, or bring say a word document to a previous time or day. It also has remote desktop functions as well as advanced networking capabilities. home premium has media center and HD dvd maker, while business just has dvd maker.

I just placed an order over the phone. They swapped out the Business for Home Premium and cut $95 off the price! Here is what I got:

    Vostro 1500
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display with TrueLife
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    160G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
Integrated 2.0 mega pixel Web Camera
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
10GB for 1yr Online Backup by Dell Datasafe

The price was only $754, with tax $799.23. I don't think I could come anywhere close to this kind of deal on a laptop anywhere else. The Dell salesperson was great.

I called 1-800-289-3355, and then went to business sales. At first he told me that Home Premium was not an option for the Vostro since it was a business system, but when I explained to him what deal I was looking at on their site, he said that he could swap it out with no problem. His name was John, and his extension 7958275.

Since I already placed my order, I have to talk to a special department that is closed. Oh well. I think Ultimate will be fine :)
