    Original Dell Ship Date vs. Actual

    If it was ordered tonight (E1405) and it says it estimates 12/27 for a ship date, what do you think I can hope for as an actual ship date?

    Usually it takes between 10-14 days, but obviously it varies. Once it's being 'boxed' it takes 3 days to get here (assuming you're ordering in the US) and then it's in the hands of the delivery people. I'd say that's not TOO far off from accurate.

    Dell's estimates are usually very accurate. I wouldn't put them at more than 1 or 2 days off, maximum.

    And as vespoli said, it depends where you live and Dell has no control over the actual delivery of your order.

    I agree with spartanpredator above. However don't be surprised if it comes early. Mine came a full week early.

    Mine came 4 days early, earlier this month. The only challenge you might have is that your date is so close to Christmas.

    Mine came a full week early too, which was a nice surprise! I reckon they over-estimate the delivery date so that if it gets delayed, you don't actually know. And when it arrives early you think they're fantastic :)

    I've bought 4 systems from Dell. One took a long time to arrive, but it was expected (the LCD was on back order) and it still arrived on time compared to the original estimate. The rest all came early and one even arrived the second day after I ordered it.

    I'd say their shipping estimates are quite accurate.

    Well, just thought I'd let you all know the final results. I needed this lappy fast because I'm setting it up for my mother with printer and bt mouse and all her email and docs etc. and she goes back home (far away) after Christmas on the 27th.

    Ordered: 12/15 in the evening.
    Est. Ship Date: 12/27
    Actual Ship Date: 12/19
    Arrived: 12/20

    Thanks Dell.

    p.s. paid $105 for overnight shipping. I wonder if that had anything to do with Dell's lightning response?

    The big but.. is everything has to be in stock. They have messed with me a few times. Not notifying that it is back ordered and let you wait 7 weeks for them to get it.

    I really find Dell a mess. Some times they are really good and other time it is like a dog chasing his tail.
