Are there any laptops that have screens bright enough for outdoor use?

    I doubt it...sunlight and LCD's just don't mix.

There are a few that are supposed to have some special coatings (non dell though) I think portableone may make one. Never liked using mine outdoors when I go out I go to do things besides compute.

Out of the Dells, which screens are brightest? Is there anything you can do, like maybe put something around the screen to make shade?

I'm looking for something similar, outdoor use but in car. Dells seem to have the least brightest screens, around 150-180 cd/m2 from what I have seen.

Toshiba Qosmio seems to have the brightest screen at 450cd/m2 but is expensive. Fujitsus seem to be the closest at 300 cd/m2 or so.

Portable one makes laptops with UVA transreflective screens but the premium is very costly ($400 more).

There are Panasonic toughbooks that have screens for outside use but they cost extremely expensive and heavy as a cinderblock.

Are you in construction, law enforcement or a building contactor where you NEED a notebook for outdoor use?
