it's possible. google for AtiTool, AtiTrayTools or RivaTuner.
it's fairly safe as long as you follow standard operating procedure.

If you are running 32bit Windows won't have an issue driver-wise; other than finding your core and mem max limits.

If you are running a 64bit version of Windows you may need to jump through a hoop to get the unsigned driver to load.

you could also hack your HD 3450 BIOS.
this would allow you to "permanently" tweak your GPU's clocks and voltage settings. A tool such as RBE (Radion Bios Editor) could help.

I did this with my Studio 1735's 3650HD GPU. This chip normally runs at 600MHz, but Dell handicapped it to 450MHz. I imagine this was done prevent overheating issues.

So I extracted the BIOS and saved the file. I then edited it to run at 600MHz and resaved. Then booted into a DOS bootable thumb drive and reflashed the GPU bios.

here's a good walktrough to find out more:

does anybody have the overdrive option in their catalyst control centre?? i upgraded mine to 8.11 using the mobility modder, so i was wondering if the 3450 card doesnt support overdrive or is it just my drivers.

How do you monitor the temps when you overclock a HD3450? HWMonitor never shows a temp reading for the GPU. (it only has an AHCI temp, Core 0 & 1 temps, and HDD temp)

chaugh you said you modded 8.11 with mobility modder, out of curiosity what version of windows are you using? Because when I modded mine it gives me an error and whenever I start up windows it restarts with a blue screen. Using Last Known Good Configuration made it downgrade to 8.10 please enlighten me. I can't seem to find the solution anywhere. BTW I'm using Vista ULT SP1

Everest Ultimate Edition isn't a free software - Not to mention that the temps aren't so accurate and they're inclined/catered to desktop systems instead. Tried and tested even the latest version myself.

To read the temps of your GPU, you need GPUz, RivaTuner or within the Catalyst Control Center.

I recommend GPUz; it's a small window, and you can put it on side of your screen and access it via ALT+TAB Or other shortcut key methods to access the temps while you benchmark/game on your system. That's what I do all the time when I OC'ed my GPU. I ALT+TAB every half an hour to check the temps even while in game to see how I'm doing.

So far for my record, I haven't hit above 68*C overclocked. However I'm not so certain about the Studio's cooling abilities.

If you have other easier methods to display your GPU temps, by all means.

No i'm not using 64bit, and HWMonitor 1.12 which was just released can read GPU temp. To my surprise I find that HD3450 runs at 40 celcius on startup, 60 on idle and 75 at load. Meaning it actually gets quite warm in there.

Sorry, did you miss my post? Try checking your graphics temperature after running COD4 for a while.. I had 73-75max after I was running RA3 for 1 hour.

    No problem.

One more thing chaugh. Out of curiosity where did you download your unmodded driver from? It seems there's some problem with my files after modding them. When I try to manually install the driver to 8.11 it give me "Invalid Handling" of some sort. This would be refering to the modded mobility driver. I've tried re-downloading the file.

Finally someone actually did, can you post a guide on how you did and what drivers and catalyst version are you using. Also what is your 3dmark06 score.

You got to help me out here. What are your core clock and memory clocks. And did you notice any fps increases if so by how much.

    Thank you

    Regards MIKE

EDIT: ALso what did you use for testing artifacts and how did you know when to stop.

    Here here

I am trying to un-underclock mine...its set at 249/356...I tried ATI Tool .27 b 4 which won't open and locks up my computer if I try to 'send error report' (must be the drivers, I'm running Catalyst 9.2 modded and it at least opened with my previous drivers), tried AMD GPU Clock Tool and that shows me at 499.5/693...while GPU-Z simultaneously shows me at 249/356. With ATI Tool I was able to open the app itself on my previous driver, but when I clicked 'find max core clock' the little animation opened up for a second and then crashed. I tried Xtreme-G 8.27 drivers modded and that BSOD'ed on every startup (page fault in non paged area). I guess next I'll try 9.1. Or ATI Tray Tools which I'm not so sure about.

edit: I think this is a locked BIOS issue...BIOS reading is not supported via GPU-Z / ATT. I guess the only way around this is to use find something that is capable of dumping the BIOS and editing that, or just finding one someone else did and flashing it. Any takers? :p

Please note the 3450 is integrated, so if you push it too far you fry your entire motherboard.
I have seen the studio 1535 motherboard. I just did a swap yesterday from the intel integrated version to the ATi 3450

I was actually thinking of checking out the ATI Powerplay settings, as I've read that you tweaking the BIOS can expand the possibilities with Powerplay, and if not, messing around with underclocking/undervolting.

NBR's review of the Dell Studio 15 with Intel X3100 graphics gave a battery life of 3:41 with a 6-cell, at 50% brightness and wifi on. My battery life is 2:40, at 10-20% brightness with wifi on. Thus, I want to see the effect of undervolting/customizing Powerplay.

So has anyone managed to OC this v-card without editing the GPU bios?

I have vista-32 and have tried almost everything possible besides powerstrip, which i am tinkering with now

edit: i have a 1537, but i dont think that would matter

I tried Powerstrip to no avail. It allows you to raise the clock bars and apply them, but the actual clocks don't change. Let me know if you get it working. ATI tool and Ati Tray Tools revert back to the normal clocks when you hit apply. Suxorz.

exact same results for me. I think the person that OCed with powerstrip only thought that they did because they didn't get an error or reset like other programs. People have been able to OC cards such as the 3650, would the methods used work on our cards?

Good news! Premed is right. For some reason the AMD GPU Clock tool started to work. Before, when I hit set clock, it would just reset to the original clocks. Now it actually stays at the set clock. :D To make sure the clocks were actually being set, I raised the core clock to 850Mhz. My computer then froze and beeped. Perfect! I was able to set both the core and memory clocks to 573MHz. Any higher and there were severe artifacts. I noticed a big difference in Star Wars BF2. Roughly a 10-15 FPS boost with AA on 4x.

Hmm...I downloaded the latest Catalyst display driver (9.4) and Mobility Modder, and installed according to the instructions...I disabled UAC, extracted the driver but didn't install it, modded it, and then ran the driver setup.

However, it says my current display driver version is only 8.6, not 9.4, and the AMD GPU Clock Tool won't save any clock changes. Ideas?

I have no idea what I did to get it to work. D: I wish I could help. I also noticed that suddenly Powerplay options were available when they previously weren't.

Hmm...premed said he used the 9.2 drivers. Perhaps there's just something about that particular release that allows clock editing.

It really can't be that hard for Dell to just give us the bloody drivers themselves. The driver page for the 1535 has driver version 8.533, which was posted in October of last year. Frankly, I think that's just unacceptable. If Dell wants us to rely on them for our graphics drivers, then the least they can do is keep them up to date.

ya, i installed 9.2, but the drivers page says
    driver version: 8.501.0.0

whatever it actually is, i get to use amd gpu clock tool to overclock, and im sure that overclocking will more than make up the difference in drivers.

I can't get modded drivers to install correctly on my 1737 - CCC doesn't install, gives some package error. Once I try this, I can't get CCC to install correctly AT ALL. I had to do system restore to get back to where I could update to the latest driver Dell provides.

I don't want to overclock, I just want my card to run at it's rated speed(it seems to be locked @ 222mhz core)!

Underclocking is the same steps as over clocking. as far as undervolting, (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) you would only be able to do this through bios. People have said they have edit the bios on our cards, but never said many details about it. From what i understand we cant export our bios, or at least i havent figured it out yet.

I don't know what version of mobility modder I used, but I was trying to install 9.3 Catalyst. I think I had a bad installer, because I downloaded, modded again, and copied to my laptop, and they installed fine this time.

Still stuck on 222Mhz core, but Bioshock runs great so I'm not too worried.

Thanks. Now, where can I get the actual 9.2 driver? On ATi's website I can only find 9.3 and 9.4, and on the Mobility Modder site I can only find 8.x series.

64-bit, actually, but don't worry, I found them.

I modded and installed Catalyst 9.2 using the beta Mobility Modder provided by premed, but AMD GPU Clock Tool still resets to the standard 109.whatever MHz as soon as I hit "Set". >_<

    I'm done. :p

Also, good call hosting at FileFront. I'm a moderator at the forums there. :D
