Ok, so I got my new computer a couple days ago and decided to run a 3dMark06 run.

    Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
    OS: Microsoft Windows XP
    Res: 1280x800

Here are my scores on 3dMark06 with the overclocked Core/Memory speeds. I'm using the latest drivers from Dell.com, and I used ATITool to overclock and check for artifacts.

    400/400: 1318
    475/541: 1523
    490/543: 1531

I found that increasing my memory too much over this value created artifacts. I've yet to increase the core/memory together further than this to check the scores.

This really is a significant increase, and with only an hour of amateur overclocking, my system is the 4th fastest with this GPU (out of 100 or so).

I think I'm done with overclocking since I don't really play games.

Here's a link that shows some details.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that overclocking can be done and it's very easy. Just be careful to check temperatures and artifacts.

You should be able to go higher than that (if you were so inclined, but since you dont game much I guess there isnt much point)
I hit like 600 core/ 825 mem in the 140m (super dooper similar to the 8400gs) and got 3D-06 of 2500ish.

    thanks

i actually noticed that going more over this in memory created artifacts. I was really surprised to see that.

Maybe if I increase core and then memory after, I will be able to do it without artifacts...

i'll just keep a very close eye on the temperatures.

AtiTool actually has a utility built-in where it finds your system's max settings on its own. Give it a shot.

Wait, your stock mem clock was only 400 on the 8400GS?

Dell must be using GDDR2 in the Vostros because my 1330's GS has GDDR3 and a stock mem clock of 600.....

Yes, the 1500 and 1520 use DDR2 memory.

Does the XPS 1530 use DDR2 memory as well?

Edit: Well apparently the video card I have has a stock Memory Clock of 600. Does that mean it's DDR3 then?
