    I'm running a Dell 1720 Inspiron.

I progressively went from 475-675 for the core, and 400-525 for the memory.

    On a 675/525 OC, I got 3849 in 3dMark06 with a max temp of 69 degrees.

After playing a good solid 2 hours of Crysis, I didnt go higher than 72 degrees.

All this without any snow, artifacts, or freezing.

    How was that? ;)

By the way, I'm using the 175.75 driver (the latest driver), using Rivatuner.

OC it even more! Lol. I ordered the M1530, and I am expecting a higher OC than your 8600M GT.

    3849? That's a good 500 marks LESS than my Non-Overclock 8600M GT GDDR3.
    With OC to 665/905, I get 6055.

I probably will in a little bit, but I feel awkward maxing the tabs for the core and memory using Rivatuner. It goes up to 715/600, respectively.

that 3849 seems low, unless you ran it at a high resolution. i got 3600 even stock clocks.

    i'm running it at 1280x1024.

is that low for that resolution?

not sure. i can't remember what i ran mine at i think it 1200x800, if not that, then 1024x768. i prolly could've done a little better too without oc'ing, i just wanted a ballpark figure. imo, a synthetic benchmark has very little use.

hes running DDR2 memory, which starts out lower then the 700mhz for DDR3 of the m1530. So of course you guys will always blow him away in your stock configs.

i think he's aware of that. i was trying to point out with his oc's he probably should've got 4000+ maybe as high as ~4300. i definitely think @ least 4000, but it is only 150 points less. maybe he had too many things running in background that could've lowered score some. if so, that score is fine.

3dmark 2006 default res is 1280x1024, you should run at that resolution to get comparable results.
However, with a 1280x800 or 1440x900 screen you can't use the default resolution and can "cheat" to get higher scores due to lower resolution.

I remembered quite sometime back when I saw a thread "I got 8000+ 3dMark score on 8600m DDR2!!" For some reason everybody was so damn amazed on this "break through" which I think it's pretty obvious he did something initially... Then when I questioned him on what resolution he uses, he replied: "800x600 sir!!" With in conjunction with his reply no one answered his thread again... So you see? How some people "cheat"? :D :) 1280x1024 is the standard testing resolution for all of us - the non-paying users that is...

Anyway, speaking of this thread, if you say your run your 3d mark at 1280x1024 resolution with 675/525 OC and have a score of 3849, then its considered low. You can get very high results on a DDR2.... Just today I ran 3d mark (2006 version) and I got a score of 4287... By then it is my highest overclock I've done so far at 661/1338/526 without any artifacts showing up on screen at a temperature of 62 degree celcius highest.... By the way if you see funny things happening on screen (Artifacts that is) better unclock your card immediately. :)

I'm using an Inspiron 1720 with DDR2 memory as well. I guess different machines have different capability of overclocking the 8600m. I'll try to post a screenshot as proof.

lmao @ 8000 @ 800x600 resolution. another reason why 3dmark has more reasons it's useless than useful. shady bragging rights.

I found that the 175.75's dropped my 3dmark score a good 300 points. Try using the 175.70's.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Actually, I am using Vista, so that may affect my score.

    I will try out 175.70.

I hope it lets my Fifa and NBA live run well. Hate these drivers, hehe.

Another driver you might also want to compare is the 169.04, dubbed by many as the best driver for 8600M GT especially for gaming.

However I must also warn you that not every laptop (1720s in this case) has the same performance with the same driver, and also has a different overclocking performance with each 1720 machine... some can go higher, some can't. Some drivers also perform differently while in games while the drivers that don't perform well in games perform better in applications like CAD or the Vista Aero interface better than the gaming drivers, so you need to experiment with different drivers all the time. But it seems like the 169.04 seems quite ok. :p

Well I guess different laptops work differently. I tried running 3dmark again, got a score of 4290, (But with all the applications at the background) lesser, but hey, still quite high. As long as I'm able to game on crysis should be quite ok.

lmao. i was teasing you about your math. but, nonetheless that's 600 pts higher than mine. i only ran 3dmark06 one time. i think it's useless for the most part.

    I didn;t even catch that 200 mis-calculation, hehe.

    I will try 169.04 too.

The reason i am overclocking was just because i was first looking for a driver that can play my nba live 08 and fifa 08. now that i found a driver that gives great overclocking abilities (while sacrificing fifa 08 for pes 08), I think im through looking for drivers, hehe. been spending so much time on it, and not enough time playing crysis and other fps games that ive been waiting to play, hehe

I have tried tons of drivers for a M1530's 8600GT. And just today I have decided to try the 169.04's. I will repost here shortly with my findings. But so far, it looks like my idle temps on the GPU are about 3-4c cooler compared to 174.74, 174.93, 175.70, 175.75 (which I found to be complete garbage).

You know what I should do? Post results of all the more "popular" drivers. If I was smart I would have kept screenshots/records. Oh well, it will be a project within the next few days :)
