I had seen a few requests on what type of overclocking could be done on the 1530 so I thought I would play around a little with ntune and 3dmark. The setup I have is as follows.

    XPS 1530
    2.2 ghz Intel
    8600GT GDDR3
    4GB ram
    32 bit vista home premium
    200gb 7200 hitachi
    1280 X 800 res
    HP 22" external for the 1280 x 1024 test
    Driver from laptopvideotogo 169.28

At default setting 475 and 702

    3dmark 06 1280x800 4445
    3dmark 06 1280 x 1024 3956

Best overclocking that I could get settings 710 and 840

    3dmark 06 1280 x 800 5813
    3dmark 06 1250 x 1024 5213

I read on another thread here, that someone said they were able to get 6000 on 3dmark (I would have to think that was at 1280 x 800), so obviously each xps might have better luck. Hope this helped out anyone looking for OC on 1530.

    all 1530's use the 8600GT 256MB GDDR3 version.

Correct, GDDR3, pretty sure all XPS 1530's use that.

Nice score~ I'm waiting for my 1530 to come, it has almost the same specs except I'm getting a 250gb 5400rpm HDD and you have a 200gb 7200RPM. Oh, but you only have 4MB of RAM ;)

I was curious about what would be possible for OC'ing to see what type of settings I could run in Crysis (not a fan of the genre, but want to see what the eye candy was like) and FSX. Like I said I think other people have said they were getting in the 6000's so maybe yours will give you a little better resault. Real happy with the laptop thou, gave me the portablilty that I wanted with the chance to play some of the latest games.

Nice results! What programs are you using? RivaTuner and Speedfan?
How is the heat build up when playing on the highest clock speed?

I have a similiar system except from the 4gb ram (I've got 2gb) and I havent started clocking yet. Have ordered a Zalman NC2000 to get better cooling :)

Hi Lindstroem, using nvidia monitor to look at temps. 82 C max it what I noticed when running 3dMark, 59 at rest with no OC 62 at rest with OC. The fan kicks up during testing blowing warm air, but you could hold your hand against the air comfortably. Curious to see what type of OC's you get with your setup, please post when you get it set up.

I'm currently going through the hazzle of installing the new RC for Vista SP1. After that I will install Nvidia 169.28 and try Ntune and see the results. I won't push it so far though since Im awaiting the cooling pad :)

Can you tell me which tools you use to:

    - Overclock
    - Monitor temperature

I googled and found many software, like nVidia System Utility, NTune, etc. So I don't know which one is right.

Oh, another thing: I downloaded 169.09 because that's the one available from laptopvideo2go ( see here). I don't see 169.28. Where did you get it? If it's indeed available, can I just install 169.28 on top of 169.09 or do I have to use DriverCleaner here

Attaching link to 169.28 and its recommended that you uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new (even restarting for optimal install):

There are two common ways to go about overclocking is either Ntune for both Overclock and monitor or RivaTuner and Speedfan. I think I will go with Ntune since it includes stability test as well. :)

Riva Tuner is better. take it easy and run 3dmark 06 as a test. It artifacts, back down the clocks.

Can you argue for Riva Tuner? =)
Ive tried using Riva Tuner a short while before switching to Ntune instead.

I installed Vista RC SP1 yesterday and did a clean install of Nvidia 169.28. I ran a benchmark with 3dMark06 1280*800 this morning and got 4410 at default settings.

I uninstalled the old video driver and learnt a hard lesson:

Always uninstall old driver in Vista SAFE MODE

I didn't and I got BSOD. I rebooted in Safe Mode and installed 169.28 successfully, but I don't know if the old driver still left some old files.

I am gonna try NTune now.

Hey, I'm new around here. I just got my XPS 1530 two days ago. It's a pretty good system, so far, although I'm not happy with the grainy Samsung LCD. Dell is replacing it.

Anyhow, as far as overclocking goes - it sounds like some people have had some luck with nVidia nTune. I just tried using it to adjust memory and gpu multipliers with strange results - I can move the sliders around, however, when I click "apply", they reset back to their default positions. What am I missing here? I already "agreed" to the disclaimer. Also, when I try the auto-tune feature, it doesn't appear to change any of the settings, it just takes a long time.

    Any ideas?

    thanks!

I had the same thing. I'm not sure which fixed it, but I installed drivers and inf from laptopvideotogo.com and I also turned off this task installed by the original Dell drivers. It's in the NVidia Control panel. Under something like Scheduled Tasks. It was set to run every 30 seconds. I'm betting that's what was doing it.

I had the slider reset problem as well but I think it is a problem only when running off the battery. Once I plugged into the AC adapter I no longer saw the problem. Let me know if this works for you.

    All,

If I use the Dell original graphics driver, will I still be able to use RIva Tuner with it?

I am planning to revert back to Dell Original graphics driver as LaptopVide02Go 169.28 is just crashing my games all the time (Company of Heroes, Call of Duty 4, Team Fortress 2, etc.). Furthermore, I see some "blank" section even in Vista itself, especially when alt-tab to another Windows.

Anyone knows if Riva Tuner works with Dell original 8600MGT driver?
