I've tried many of the laptopvideo2go drivers and seems the fastest ones are the Bioshock drivers (163.44)... with 3dmark05 scores of 3457....

Thing is, its impossible to overclock my GPU past 400/600...these drivers just keep re-setting back to 400/600, even though the card is easily capable of 500/800 for example...

I know that its possible to overclock with the 158.xx series, but they are much slower drivers!

I've tried both Rivatuner and ATItool, with no luck....

Has anybody figured out a way???

Nope, the drivers just doesn't support overclocking unfortunately.

argh... they're really good drivers though... I have a feeling I could bust 4000 on 3dmark05 if I could overclock with these drivers... that's as fast as my desktop 6800 GS

Some have been hitting over 4000 in 05 with the older drivers and overclocking. Unfortunately, there are quite a few game fixes with the 163.44s that you won't be able to replicated with any amount of overclocking.

I installed Atitools and run the Show 3D View without ocing and noticed that the GPU temp is increasing up to 100°C ! That isn't normal.

    Hello,

This is Richard from the Dell’s Online Community Outreach group. As a former hardcore overclocker I want to remind you of the possible overcome to pushing the hardware beyond it design parameters.

A notebook is not like a desktop so to MOD the hardware is not an option. You can't replace a stock heatsink or fans with after market parts to help compensate for overclocking a CPU or a GPU. This makes overclocking a notebook very risky to negotiate.

Finally, is a couple extra frame rates worth the possibly of damaging your computer. Please keep in mind you can do whatever you like with your computer but it may not be covered under warranty as Dell does not support overclocking.

    Regards,

guys, do you think it does really matter whether you get your 3Dmark score via the driver or via OC?
a faster driver does not mean a faster baseline which warrants the same amount of overclock as the previous driver.

4.000 is about the roof on any way to increase performance on the 8400.
I would rather settle with a faster driver than fiddling with Riva Tuner to get IDENTICAL performance with an older / slower driver.
