The Only cover I came across is on ebay (hard 2 pc plastic cover) it prevents it from folding over all the way to tab mode (bummer). If you find one let us know!

"I am trying to figure out if there would be any appreciable difference between the three flavors that Dell offers: celeron, pentium, or I3. I am particularly interested to know if the choice of processor affects battery life ( - being spoiled by the T100's 8+ hours) , and also if the choice of processor would affect the performance of an SSD (I plan on upgrading to the evo 840). Also, if anyone has experience using a 10 inch screen (such as the T100) verses the 11 inch Dell, please share your impressions."

I chose the Quad Core Pentium and felt that it was the best compromise between price/performance, although none of the options are bad. The Quad Core Pentium has performance that is close to the i3, but only needs 7.5v to operate vs 15v for the i3. The "Bay Trail" processor was created with the focus on battery life.

Hey i just got this laptop last week and it seems to be doing pretty well. My only complaint/concern atm is the fact that the CPU seems to be running at 100% usage at all times. Has anyone also experienced this? Any fixes?

Originally i was seeing that it had to do with the newer Realtek drivers and i read somewhere in this thread that uninstalling it produced the same sound quality. After the uninstall my laptop did run smoother and a bit more responsive but its the usage is still at 100%. Any ideas?

Did you check task manager to see which process is using your CPU? It might be something relatively simple like a messed up application of some sort...

The list constantly change but the CPU usage stays constant at 100% I do see spikes from windows modules installer worker.Any ideas? Laptop is clean because it came straight from Dell. I took out some of the bloated software so it should be fine.

Edit: Followed post #93 correctly. Trick in my case was to wipe SSD and reinstall win8.1 as too many drivers overwritten trying to get it to work. Touchpad now deactivates correctly in tablet mode. Thanks

I have big problem with my 3147.
When "SATA Operation" is set to AHCI laptop can't detect my SSD (Intel 530) in Windows 8.1 setup.
When I changed "SATA Operation" to ATA Windows 8.1 can detect SSD in setup without any problem.

I tried many chipest drivers from Dell 3147 site and directly from Intel site and all do not works. Windows 8.1 setup still can't detect my SSD. Checked MBR and GPT, flashed BIOS A03 and still nothing
SSD is good because it works fine in ATA mode (Windows 8.1) and in AHCI mode with Linux (Partition Magic).
I made thread on Dell official forum. One guy wrote, that he have this same problem with Crucial SSD. All chipest drivers do not works and Windows 8.1 can't detect SSD in setup. Nobody helped.
Funny is that this SSD working perfectly on old 3137 but do not works on 3147...
    I don't known what to do :(

I recently bought 3147 (the version that comes with Intel Pentium). I am trying to update the WiFi card. I have bought this Intel 7260 card, but it seems to be incompatible with my system (code 10 error on the driver properties page, shows in device manager with an exclamation sign and no internet). Can somebody who upgraded the network card to Intel 7260 give me a link to the one that worked for you? Thank you!

Odd I was just about to ask the same question! I bought this one but it didn't even show up on the device manager when installed! I can't find any reputable UK websites listing the 7260.

+1 on any links posted thanks

I bought the Dell 7260-ac card from dell parts and installed it, no problems. The one I bought from eBay didn't work in the Dell but worked on another PC fine.

That card you linked is a wireless-N and not wireless-AC.

yuriylsh turns out that amazon/ebay sourced 7260 cards are known to have problems. There is an interesting thread on the topic with Lenovo yoga2pro laptops here where my exact ebay card is listed as not working despite having the FCC number on it.

It seems that the only guaranteed card to work by numerous posters is the one sold via Mfactors here . I have ordered one (~$50) to the UK about 2-3 weeks and see how things go. I couldn't find the card in the UK dell shop.

Gave up? You do not wrote to Dell support (warranty)? Today I checked my SSD in AHCI mode on 3147 with Linux Mint. Works perfectly... so fault is one: bad Windows AHCI drivers from Dell :(

Isn't it really just a technique or order of steps to upgrade to an ssd? I just downloaded the wireless driver for mine, installed Windows via SD card, installed the wireless driver, and then went to dell's site to download the rest of the drivers.

You have your own list of drivers on your support page for the 3148.

Sadly I couldn't find this one on the Dell site. Or any other reputable site. I ended up buying a wifi card on ebay (listing explicitly claims to be compatible with 3147). I will report back about compatiblity once I get the card, but given it was shipped from Lithuania, it is probably going to take a while before the card arrives.

Is anybody having trouble with streaming video online in full screen. When I try streaming video in full screen the audio works fine but the video will pause for a sec then play then pause. I have read that disabling hardware acceleration fixes this issue but I cannot find the troubleshoot tab in the display window to disable hardware acceleration. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi.

Looking to purchase Dell Inspiron i3127 within the next week.
Just a couple of quick questions.

I will be using this laptop 90% of the time at home as a desktop.
Will rarely travel with this machine.
    Question:
Can I take-out the (Non-Removable) battery and run this from the AC power outlet only?
Once a month I would exercise the use of the Lithon battery.
Any issues with BIOS settings not having the battery installed?

    Has anyone removed the battery?

    Next Question.
After I purchase this laptop, how far back should I download drivers from the Dell site?
I will be purchasing the laptop from Amazon, but have no indication when the last Dell driver updates were?

    Thanks.
    TC.

Is anyone having troubles with a freezing touchpad? I followed post 93 which worked really well ie touchpad switches off in tablet mode etc. Finding that the touchpad will become sluggish then freeze / play silly buggers after say 1-2hrs of being on. Updated to the latest touchpad driver to no effect. A reboot is required to reset it again. I might have to do a fresh install again this weekend and leave the touchpad drivers as 'default' (ie not switching off in tablet mode) if this results in the mouse continuing to work after a few hours. Does anyone else have this?

Tomx 2, the battery can be easily removed but I haven't tried to run it with the ac in only.

I removed the bottom cover of my 3147 and installed a Cruical SSD, I then replaced the cover and now it will not turn on I have tried removing the battery and holding
the power switch for a minute to release any residual power but it didn't work. I have checked everything I could think of but I must be missing something.
Any help would be appreciated, I really don't want to send it to Dell will if I have to.

I assume you removed the battery before installing the SSD the first time round? I'm sure you have already looked, but check all the various cables haven't come out eg the SSD cable or one of the multitude of other cables. (I had this happen on another laptop which wouldn't then boot). Does the original HDD still boot successfully?

Bone Head move on my part, I did not unhook the battery before I swapped drives so I thought it might be because of that. However the original
drive does not work either. I unhooked and reconnected all the cables so I don't think that is the cause.

Dang lots of reports of folks having problems when swapping SSDs/RAM etc wihile the battery is still in situ. Various circuits and capacitors will still hold charge and be 'live' so much more amenable to short circuits/static charges etc. If the issue hasn't been fixed via holding the power button with the battery out, it isn't a good sign i'm afraid. Last thing I would try is removing the CMOS battery to reset BIOS but after that I'm out of ideas sorry.

I plan on upgrading my wifi to the intel dual 7260 card, but am unclear which one is compatible. On amazon they are selling these 3:
    1) 7260NGW Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac, Dual Band, 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0
    2) Intel Network 7260.HMWG WiFi Wireless-AC 7260 H/T Dual Band 2x2 AC+Bluetooth HMC
    3) Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 WiFi Bluetooth Half Mini Card

Which one works and which one doesn't work because I have been reading that some people are having trouble with the laptop recognizing the card because it is the wrong one. Should I not buy it on amazon too? Some people are saying that the amazon cards are not authenticate and don't work? Thanks!

Also, I am looking into buying a external DVD reader/writer drive and was wondering what some people have and what they recommend. I am interested in the Samsung SE-218 External Ultra Slim 9.5mm M-Disc DVD CD Burner Writer Drive Retail Box + Installation Software + USB Cable on amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SE-21...&qid=1421370242&sr=1-5&keywords=optical+drive) for $50 but do not know much about external DVD drives. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone feel that this version is a worthwhile upgrade from the 3137? I got that one for 199 and spent 100 for 4gb of ram and an 128gb ssd. It works well, but the screen is pretty awful.

Can get a 3147 refurb for $315 and use the ssd from the 3137. Debating it...

Installed the intel 7260 card today (purchased from M-factors - see a few pages back for direct link) [7260NGW (Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac, Dual Band, 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0*]. UK dell didn't sell the card themselves that I could find.

Slots in and works perfectly from the get go. Updated to latest 7260 drivers on dell's website. NB as I previously mentioned, some amazon cards are actually shipped from china, where I got my first card that wasn't compatible. I can confirm the M-factors card works, as confirmed by others elsewhere.

I got Intel 7260NGW Dual Band w/ Bluetooth from this seller on eBay (ebay item#: 200978852662).
Installed on a Inspiron 11 3147 and it worked. I got the drivers from the Intel website but Dell also has the drivers.

Yes, I encountered the unresponsive touchpad issue and the touchpad and keyboard active in tablet mode.
If you look under the task manager the Synaptic touchpad drivers are using a lot of CPU cycles. I disabled all gestures and that made the issue less bothersome.

Does anyone here have the problem when putting in tablet mode that the screen rotates in the wrong orientation? The display will always rotate upside down (it's as if the sensor is in the base/keyboard, and there's nothing telling the system that the screen is folded and therefore to rotate correctly)? I've updated all the drivers and I can't find any settings to fix this - any suggestions?

I got rid of my Dell Inspiron 11 3147. I could not take it anymore.
The touchpad was driving me crazy. I had to disable all touchpad features otherwise the CPU usage will go to the roof, which make the laptop to lag.
The weird part is that I installed the Windows 10 preview and the laptop works better than on windows 8.1

I got the Dell Inspiron 13 - 7347 which is a different beast.

I'm new here, but I have been following this thread for some time. I joined because I wanted to confirm that the 7260AC M.2 card works really well. I've also upgraded to 8 GB of RAM and a 250 GB SSD drive. They work great.

My biggest and most frustrating complaint is the touchpad that basically struggles to work consistently. It works great when I first boot up or reboot the laptop. If I close the lid or if it goes to sleep, the touchpad goes crazy and fails to work. I have to plug in my mouse. It's very frustrating.

Is there a fix? I've done the full uninstall and even deleted it. I just wish it'd work like a normal laptop. We have 2 Dell 15R (5537) that zero issues with their touchpad.
