Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you having problems with a specific update? Could you give the KB number of the update? I would first try to manually uninstalling it and then reinstalling either through Windows Update or manually downloading.

I always install all windows updates, but how will I know which one is the update that is causing the problems?

I would check all latest updates and try reinstalling them. Or check in Windows Updates which updates failed to install in "Show update history".

Hi, may I ask does your laptop screen has kind of moving lines like water waves?
I get 16G with 1080 P model, but since I received my laptop, I found that problem and called dell but still didn't get any solution so far, not even identify the problem.

Looking for a little help regarding the infamous Wifi issue. Just wanted to know from people who have changed their wifi card..which card they used specifically so i can purchase and do the same please. So if you have had success in changing your wifi card and could kindly share your experience with which brand, part etc I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance :)

dave, did you notice a material difference with connectivity and speed? and is it as simple as just removing the old card and replacing the new or was there more to it than that?

thanks for the speedy reply...much appreciated

i am new to this thread just wanted to ask is the panel on this dell inspiron 7537 an IPS panel or TN panel?because here few people mentioned that its a TN panel even though i saw on notebookcheck.net that its a gorgeous IPS panel with wide viewing angles, contrast value of 1084:1 which is better than a macbook....so its very confusing that what really is this panel? here is the link for the notebookcheck see for urself Review Dell Inspiron 15-7537 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

So after having this laptop for a few weeks this is what I have to report:
The trackpad isn't perfect i feel like it could it be updated. The laptop came with a dell touchpad driver installed and I can't seem to find the settings anywhere to learn what the gestures are. If anyone could give me advice on this it would be great.

The main issue comes with waking the laptop up after putting it to sleep. I press the power button and the computer powers up but the display doesn't turn on. This forces me to force shutdown the laptop by holding down the power button and starting it up again. This is a pretty big issue, though i suspect the resolution might be rather simple.

The Dell Quickset application installs the Dell Power configuration. I'm not certain it's all the settings, but it's some of them. I asked if anyone else had any insight to this a while ago but haven't had much of a response.

Well it's a fact that I read from many reviewers. The IPS is a bit more saturated than macbook which means colors appear darker and less true to life. I like it. I won't compare it to the macbook though. I still have very high respect for the macbook screen.

The screen on xps 15 is very close to the one on macbook I think with higher brightness nits and contrast than the inspiron. But that's not why it's so expensive. It has a quadcore CPU in a thin and light package with very good build quality while Inspiron line is heavier and chinkier sporting dual core CPU.

Windows power settings should be in the control panel - after doing windows updates the options are there for running on battery and AC

Is this what your looking for?

Not quite, I was looking for the additional "Dell" power setting which doesn't come with Windows by default like the standard "Power Saver", "Balanced" and "High Performance" options. After installing all the drivers on the Dell website, the power option still isn't showing up.

Not too concerned about it now anyway, "Power saver" seems to be fine.

Be careful - the MAC connection to the discreet video card is a Thunderbolt - no Thunderbolt available on Dells. In other words, the INTEL (internally) chip design is different and you WILL NOT BE able to use the Nvidia which means unless the HD4000 is turned on (on some Dell it is not and you will not be able to modify this) no decent video; you'll be stuck with VESA and no acceleration.

Hey guys - question : I just got the model that has the i7 4500u, nvidia 750, 1TB hdd/16GB ram etc. I want to make two modifications: 1) I want an SSD. I was looking at this one: Buy the Crucial M500 Series 240GB SSD at TigerDirect.ca

Does it look good (reputable) and is it compatible with my dell?

Secondly I want to get a Wireless AC card. I was looking at the Intel Dual band AC 3160 that comes in certain laptops but don't know where to buy it. Open to suggestions thanks :)

    Guys, Hi!

I am about to buy N7737. I will use it for work in my office.

This is my 5th notebook already. Each of them I use for at least 3 years, 99% of the time in my office.

N7737 has a built-in battery. I would like to remove this batter and use it only with power cord to save battery life.
Is this a good idea, or I can leave the battery inside and let it charge all the time ?

Though I use a 500 GB Samsung EVO in this laptop, I've used several Crucial M series SSDs and never had an issue. Samsungs seem to have a bit better performance, but they're usually more expensive as well. I put the Intel Dual Band AC 7260 in my 7537, and it works great.

Don't play starcraft, but the i5 w/intel HD graphics runs Tropico 4 just fine. The i7 version exceeds the minimum requirements for Tropico 5, so you shouldn't have any issues there.

    Hi Guys ..
anyone uses the inbuilt card reader ?? Is it slow ? Mine is pretty slow .. I mean I just cant get more than 11MB/sec speed on a Strontium Nitro class 10 UHS-1 card ..... So I tested a samsung class 6 ( new series, the blue coloured ones, as well as old black ones, nonetheless the colour doesn't make any difference :p) , same result !! maximum 11MB/sec write speed !!
New samsung is marked at 24MB/sec write and Strontium at 65MB/s write !! All the 3 cards are 16 gigs .. windows copy function, crystaldiskmark and some other software from strontium all give the same result.
Is is the real scenario ? Just 11mb/s write speeds maximum ? or is the problem with mine only ?

Hi! It's not a good idea to let it charge all the time. Read this:

Keeping Your Laptop Plugged in All the Time Will Kill Its Battery Faster | Gadget Lab | WIRED

according to this keeping it constantly charging to 100% will shorten it's life. It happened to me too with an Asus laptop. Keeping it always fully charged and letting it fall to 0 regylarly killed my battery.

Some questions from a new owner of this laptop:

    1) What kind of temperatures are you guys getting during light internet browsing? Mine are around 40-45c.
    2) What kind of temperatures while gaming?
    3) How do you guys find the touchpad? Because I think it's atrociously bad so far.
    4) Is there any way to remove dust from under the touchscreen?

Hey guys! I will probably be receiving a 7537 as a replacement for my Studio 1558. I intend to install my own Samsung 840 EVO drive and install a clean version of Windows 8 on it using this guide. But just in case I want to create a recovery USB first. Can anyone tell me if the Dell Datasafe Local Backup software creates this successfuly on an 8GB USB drive or does it ask for a 16GB drive?

(Normally I don't bother with the recovery partition and the USB/DVD that DDSLB creates using it. I usually just dd the whole drive using clonezilla but right now I'm out of space because my Studio 1558 stuff has used up my external drive space, hence I'll have to rely on this method as a backup until I set everything up)

Comparing the Inspiron 15-7537 to the XPS 15, where do I have to make big sacrificies? Is it just the keyboard that is not doing a job as good as on the more expensive brother? Have the Wifi issues been fixed?

I would like to use my new laptop for both work (MA thesis) as well as gaming. I do have a PS4, but whenever there's good Steam discounts, I want to be able to play that game on a notebook as well. Seeing the higher specs of products such as the MSI GE60 (although it is told to have heat issues), I am not quite sure which one to get.
I have owned the XPS M1330 as well currently using the Inspiron 15R SE and have been happy with both machines. However, I feel my choice at the time was just a little underpowered as I'm struggling with a couple of game titles now. For example, I would like to play The Witcher 2 on nice settings but my machine is already not doing too great with The Witcher 1.

Thank you for your comments, espacially on the Inspiron keyboard (maybe in comparison to my current model) as well as what option to go for.

I think both keyboards are similar. The XPS is much thinner and lighter, but on the other hand you don't have an ethernet port, so you will need to use a USB adapter if you need it.
Another thing is the option to get it with an SSD disk (you cannot get it in the inspiron, although you can replace it with one yourself pretty easily).

Hi! I'm considering to buy an Samsung Evo 840 256GB to swap in the Inspiron 7537, but I don't want to migrate, but install Windows from scratch. My question is: Do I have to install additional Samsung apps to optimize the SSD or will it work with full performance from the start?

If you mean Samsung Magician then it's optional. I think one or two things like Rapid mode are to be enabled using it only, but some of the other things it does can be done natively in Windows, like most of the settings optimizations it does.

Or if you mean to ask about TRIM then no you don't need to install Magician, windows 7/8 natively support TRIM.

I have just (finally) bought the Intel 7260-AC card from Amazon, 35€ and let's hope I have no more WiFi issues. I decided to spend some money and avoid going through the whole Dell support process, that is the most tedious thing I have had to stand in my life... I will update you as soon as I test it.

Hi guys, the screen of my Inspiron 15-7537 doesn't respond when I touch if it is opened in a wide angle, but becomes touch sensitive again if I make the angle smaller. Is this a deliberate feature or a hardware problem?

As we know now, there is no mSATA port on the 7537. But has anyone noticed that the system still comes with Intel Rapid Storage and Smart Response fully setup? Ie there is an 8GB partition at the end of the HDD and there is Smart Response support in the BIOS. This (in my system) is a mis-configuration by Dell on two counts:

    1. SRT is supposed to be enabled on a separate SSD to actually gain any speed boost during hibernation, but making the partition on the HDD itself is no different than using the default hiberfil.sys on C:\
    2. My system comes with 16GB of RAM so technically the partition should have been 16GB in size.

Yes the HDD is technically an SSHD, specifically the Seagate ST1000LM014 with an in-built NAND of 8GB capacity. But this is entirely managed my the drive, and is not exposed to the BIOS or the OS in any way and cannot be user configured.

So does anyone else here have this (useless) 8GB partition at the end? Just before this is another ~8GB revocery partition, and before that comes the main OS partition that we have access to for our files.

I just called up Tech Support and explained it to them, they said this informaton will be passed on to an R&D team and looked into.

Nope no such issues here. I guess the cable connect at the motherboard is slightly loose on your system, you could open it up and fasten it. I usually open it up to the widest angle when using the touch, or else my wrists will be at an odd and uncomfortable angle.

I'm going to start going through this thread, but I just wanted to ask a few questions as I'm just deciding to possibly get this laptop. I initially wanted to get an XPS 15, but it seems like the coil whine issue is a fairly common problem (and it would annoy me), and that I can get nearly the same performance out of an inspiron 15 7537 for hundreds less (weight isn't an issue as this is basically a desktop replacement for me).

    1) Are there any common major problems with the 15 model? From what I could tell, there's issues with wi-fi. Has this been resolved yet?

    2) What is real life battery life like? Specifically for the model with 750M. I just mean for regular use/browsing, not while gaming as I know that will eat up the battery. I'm looking for at least 4-5 hours battery life while browsing. Could I expect such a life with this model w/ 750M?

    3) Is now a good time to purchase this model, or will it be replaced soon?

    Thanks!

I don't think the wi-fi issue has been resolved. some people have replaced the wi-fi card and it works fine then.

battery lasts for about 5-6 hours if not playing. even if the laptop comes with the 750M, it also has an intel HD4400 in the CPU, which is used by default when not doing graphic-demanding tasks. while browsing it will use the intel. power consumption and heat is really low, the fan does not come on very often, so the battery lasts a good while.

for those interested, I have just replaced the hybrid hard drive with a 512GB SSD Crucial MX100 disk, and everything is fine and working super-fast.
