PC-cillin seems to be the default antivirus on the M1710's and is an option on other Dell computers. When I ordered my 1520, I chose no antivirus and the computer came with an unwanted McAfee trial.
If you order a laptop with PC-cillin, do they still stick that unwanted McAfee trial on it?
Is anyone using PC-cillin?
If yes, how do you like it?
And if you don't like it, is it easier to remove than McAfee or Norton?

I use PC-Cillin. Pretty good program, not great, but good.
-
I haven't used PC-cillin for a long time, but back when I did, it's quite good then. My laptop comes with Norton, I uninstalled it as soon as I got it. I didn't see any option to not include any antivirus on Dell Canada, maybe I was just being careless when I ordered it.
You probably know that already, but I just want to point out that there are many free alternatives you can consider.
Like 1. Avast! Antivirus Home Edition
2. AVG Anti-virus Free Edition
3. Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic
4. Comodo AntiVirus
Also, COMODO has more collections of free security software than just anti-virus like firewall and Anti-Malware etc. You can take a look, and give them a try.

I use Kaspersky

I highly recommend Avira. I used it until my university couldn't install Cisco Clean Access. Their claim was that it was TOO STRONG.
-
Personally, I use Avira Antivir too. I install it on my laptops and recommend it to my friends and family.
I don't like its ads though, but only once a day, I can live with that.

Stay away from Norton! Its expensive, it sucks and its a resource hog. A true windows killer!
I now use avast, it's free and gives you free updates, it also works well with windows.
Can't comment on PC-Cillin as I don't use it. -
I think you can get nothing on the XPS if you prefer.
On the Inspirons, the option is worded: "No security subscription (30-day trial)".
(i.e. you get a "trial" instead of a "subscription")
On the XPS, the option is: "No security software pre-installed".
So I think on the XPS, you really have a no antivirus software option, while on the Inspiron, you only thought you did.
Of course, PC-Cillin may be worth getting anyway, since it's included in the price... I don't really know. -
I use NOD32
Yes, you pay for it but you get what you pay for. Ranks right up there with Kaspersky -
Yes I noticed that. I just wasn't sure I believed it. And for all I know PC-cillin is a decent antivirus. Since it's an alternative to McAfee or Norton on Dell laptops, I thought I'd check if anyone in here was using it.
I thought it might be somewhat better than the free antivirus. From what I've read, the free versions of AVG, Avast, and Antivir aren't as good as the paid for versions by the same companies. If I was going to pay for an antivirus I'd probably choose NOD32, Bit Defender, or possibly Kaspersky. But PC-cillin is essentially free for the first 15 months (or at least no more expensive than the "no security" option).
PC-cillin as antivirus
