I ordered my i6000 a few days ago with a gig of ddr2 ram, but now I am going to change my order to the smallest possible ram and buy a gig of aftermarket ram to save money. How do I know if it is Pc43 or 4200 that i need to buy? Does it matter? anyone have a good 2x512 deal? thanks

well the dell ram is going to be 4200 or which ever is the 400 mhz... I made the mistake of buying my ram from dell cause I figured after shipping I couldn't get ram for that much cheaper.

I thinkt eh 1 gig ddr2 ram upgrade is $250 from dell with like 35% off.. well thats what I got with mine.

online you can get 2 sticks of identical 512 mb ram sticks for like $60 each... that's kingston .. cosairs are like $75 each I believe.

Basically in short for the same $250 I spent on the dell ram that could have bought me 2 gigs of kingston ram for about the same cost. I plan to give my ram to my dad if he gets a new laptop and buy 2 gigs of ram for my computer or just a single 1 gig stick.

I hear ddr2 isn't that much faster working in dual (identical sticks from same manufacture) then just single ddr. atleast at the 400 mhz level that is.. not sure about the 533 mhzs.

Dell installs PC-3200 which is 400MHz. If you want 533MHz then you need to order PC-4200.

If you want to see the RAM benchmarks for 2x512MB 533MHz dual-channel go here:
