I own a Dell Inspiron 700m and have had it for a couple of months but a problem recently showed up.

There is an expansion slot on the side of the laptop, just above the SD card slot. I assume that it is for a PCMCIA card, although I have never used one of these. In this slot is what I can only assume is a placeholder, to stop dust and dirt from getting into the slot. There is also a spring loaded button just next to the expansion slot. From what I can tell the purpose of this button is to eject the placeholder so you can install a card into the expansion slot.

My problem is that this button is stuck in the "out" position, and I can't get it to go back in. I don't know when this started, but I do know that when I first got the laptop it did not have this centimeter-long button sticking out of the corner all the time (see photos), and then one day I pick it up and it won't go back in. Does anyone know how to get this thing to go back in?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sometimes it can be hard to push it back enough so it will "stick". Try pushing it as far as it will go with a pen or something like that.

I thought something was wrong with mine until I realized I wasn't pushing it far enough.

Here's what you need to do....push it in and while you are holding it in, also press down on it until you hear the "Click." The same thing happened with my Inspiron 1520. I thought I broke it until I figured out that u just need it to click in place by pressing it down (slightly, don't break it off).

Thanks a lot, that worked like a charm.
