Are all 630m and 640m batteries compatible. I just ordered one on Ebay and it states 630m and XPS M140 compatibility. It doesn't state 640m although all the other listings for batteries listing those 2 were compatible with the 640 as well...

****!!! I already commited to purchase! It also states 80Whrs where as the others are 85Whrs. ****!!!

I don't know if it will work. It might though. But there are other concerns, like the specifications of the battery not matching that of another system. Personally I'd prefer to stick with the battery that was designed for my laptop.

Is there something wrong with the battery your notebook came with?

The battery guide has a section on using generic and/or batteries from other systems if you'd like to read more on the subject.

I wanted an additional 9 cell since my package only has a 6...

A lot of the specs match up. Voltage is 11.1 which matches a compatible battery although some are 14.9.

This is another listing that shows 640m
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Y9943-battery...5135206QQihZ016QQcategoryZ14297QQcmdZViewItem

But all the google searches are missing the 640m listing for that part number... I'm freaking out!

This says it's for the 640m

I've never withdrawn a bid from ebay... Do you think the seller is going to give me negative feedback? I already sent him a message explaining the situation. What a messed up situation

Please watch your language in the forums. This is a family-friendly environment.

You have received a response to your questions. Bottom line is that if you want to try it--you are free to do so. There's a pretty decent chance that it will work, but I simply don't recommend it for the reasons above and in the battery guide.

If you are so concerned about it--I'd suggest you give Dell a call and ask them directly.
