    Similar polls:
    1280x800 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=211959
    1440x900 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210649

I made a similar poll for the 1440x900 display and thought the results were interesting, so I've created this poll.

Dell uses several lcd manufacturers. Most people seem to believe the LG screens are better.
If you are a M1530 owner with a WSXGA+ (1680x1050) vote here! LG or not?

To check your LCD screen manufacturer on Vista:
    Computer-->Properties-->Device Manager-->Monitors-->Generic PnP Monitor-->Properties-->Details-->Hardware Ids

For the 1680x1050, I believe "LPLF300" is an LG screen. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure the LG screens are preferred by most people.

Why are you asking why they suck?

Mine didn't come with an LG, but it's getting one or it's going back to Dell.

If you replaced your screen, should probably still vote for the screen you got originally. Seems like a great difference from the WGXA+ trend so far.

Just thought I'd save the current poll results... in case the current trend changes.
    LG: 2
    Non-LG: 22

    And vote if you haven't!

Damn this poll is quite harsh... 2 vs 22 compared to the 30'ish vs 5'ish for the 1440x900 WXGA+ thread...

Mine is also the dreaded Samsung SEC3350.
I've already asked for replacement. No guarantee though.

If I could, I'd vote 2 for Samsung and once for LG. The laptop came with a fairly nice Samsung display (almost no backlight bleed, good viewing angles, moderately grainy). I tried my luck to get an LG display, but they shipped another Samsung which was absolutely atrocious (horrible grain, horrible backlight bleeding, half the screen was noticably darker than the other), so I talked online with a CSR. They assured me that they'd specifically ordered an LG screen, and lo and behold, it was an LG, and the correct resolution. I wouldn't have believed how much of a difference it would make, but there is no visible grain at all on this thing now. Colors are solid, smooth, just like the 5 year old display from my previous computer.

I thought I'd save the current poll results again:
    LG: 3
    Non-LG:39

Plus this has gotten buried so it's a good time to bump it.
It would be interesting to see if the trend changes.

Any new owners: vote if you haven't!

I just voted LG, but it was not the first screen I received with my 1530. I had it replaced by Dell a few weeks ago.

I got my first xpsm1530 around a month ago with the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen. The screen was a samsung, but the grain was something I could live with. However, the laptop kept disconnecting me from my network, and so I sent it back. I ordered my second m1530 a week later (better specs, same price, WSXGA+ (1680x1050)), and thought I received another samsung because the slip of paper that came with my order said the monitor was samsung. I booted it up, and realized that the screen was perfectly fine (I remember thinking at this point "damn, this looks nice... I wonder why no one else has mentioned getting a samsung screen without grain..."). Later, when I actually checked the tag, I realized my screen was actually an LG. :)

I suppose in my situation, I shouldn't have voted at all cuz I got both a samsung and an LG - but I still voted for the LG. Hope others are finding that their screens are LG too.

If I were allowed to vote twice, I would have voted that both my original and replacement m1530 notebooks have the LG screen.

the odds aren't looking good for getting an LG, however Dell may have decrease sumsung screens in newer orders.

You need to make a poll that asks who has got LG or Samsung within the last few months.

Ordered at the end of Feb, received the first week of March, got LG in this res on first try. US customer. It DOES happen, but I guess I was a lucky one. Screen is almost pretty enough to make me switch over to my laptop full time :).

Note that not all Dell laptops are made in the same factory. Here in Europe, they are currently made in Poland. In a Dutch forum which I also visit there have been many people reporting that they got an LG screen lately. So it seems that the last few weeks Dell is using LG screens in the factory in Poland. It might be different in other countries.

Also, it might vary in time. Maybe they have a batch of LG screens one month, and the next month they have a batch of Samsung screens.

So beware that the result of the poll is not an accurate indicator for the chance that you get an LG screen.

In Europe Dell has 2 laptop manufacturing facilities, one in Poland and in Ireland. In the Top 10 Question about the M1530 I've included a link to 'Here is How Dell Notebooks Are Made Step By Step'. It gives a very good understanding of how components are supplied to Dell.

Dell was selling around 150K computers a day in 2004, don't know what the numbers are today but with the trend of notebook outselling desktop it's a big number for sure.

People have reported receiving LG and Samsung panels shipped within days of each other or on the same day from the same facility. I don't think there a batch of the month here. It could very well be the ratio is 50/50 and the numbers here are skewed because people come here to complain...

My M1530 was delivered with a Samsung WSXGA+ screen. The viewing angle and backlighting was very bad. My replacement screen was an LG - I was happy and the screen looks much better then the original Samsung screen.

If I had no option other than the original Samsung, I would have returned the computer. I would have bought another brand instead. I'm happy the screen was replaced with a much better unit and I enjoy my new laptop very much!

well I got my 1530 few weeks ago, last week I open a case # with dell and according to them they gonna ship a LCD and motherboard<audio jack noise> to an tech and he/she will call me soon. the rep I spoke with<from filipine> saids all XK309<Lg> is out of stock, so he gave me another part# <i forgot> and i searched it in this forum and it's dell LCD replacement kit so it could be a LG or samsung. so I hope all goes well, I really hate their dell online chat, those pplz are jerks, they told me that dell doesnt see it as "defect" so I would have to call tech support, whats the different between chatting with one and calling one?

Ordered an M1530 from the Outlet last night and my invoice says 'XR859 Module,Liquid Crystal Display 15.4WSXGA+,Lg Philips Lcd M1530 '.

I tried to get Dell to tell which Dell part = item number XR859, but they couldn't or at least wouldn't. What are the chances I wonder of getting the LG according to the invoice or could the actual screen received be a dreaded Samsung even though the invoice states differently?

I'm still waiting for a service tag which I believe is assigned at the time of shipment.

    Thanks.

Delivered on May 22nd with a Samsung RW985. Called to return it the next day because of the horrible screen (after the Tech Support guy suggested that I should use an external monitor).

Had an LG XK309 installed yesterday, am keeping the computer.
