I got my inspiron 1520 about a month ago..

I use it everyday for about 6 hours on average.

Well i type alot, and the palm rest area is getting damaged, meaning its losing its silver color and starting to see some black dots.

How can i save my palm rest area from getting damaged?

Pretty sure you can get plastic protection sections to stick on there

you could attempt to contact dell (a challenge in itself) and let them know that it has worn away and tell them that you would not expect it from a laptop so young. im sure they will send you a hand rest which you can fit yourself.

Whether it would work and whether it is worth the time and effort, is a question you need to ask yourself.

call Dell Tech support (try this number: 800-456-3355 then press 1 then dial this extension 7238587) and tell them to replace it before buying those at ebay. they will definitely replace it for you ^_^

Oh come on, he's been using it a lot, it's called natural wear and tear. It's up to him to protect it rater than tying Dell up with frivolous problems with more serious ones out there.

its going to happen on a silver laptop. its normal, while dell may replace it, imho, i dont think they should. get a black laptop if this is an issue to you.

it will happen, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should happen, especially if you only had it for a short period of time. i suggest you call dell.

It's easier just to buy a palm rest.

It doesn't matter if you've had it a month or a year. Everyone's chemistry is different. One person's sweat might wear away on the finish faster than another person's. Why should Dell have to pay for this?

As an example, my Mom can only get about 6 months out of a keyboard before she wears all the letters off (and it's not from typing several hours in a day).
