Patiently waiting....

So today i decide to call dhl to find out if by any miracle it will be delivered today instead of tomorrow, or if it is at a local facility i could pick it up. So i call and they tell me that it is on the truck on its way to me and delivery will be by 5:00p.m. today. so i anticipate arrival and when 5 p.m. rolls along, i still have no laptop.... why god?

I call dhl at around 5:30 and explain my situation, i end up getting an un-cooperative CSR that has a some what "i don't give a F***" attitude. she then tells me that an outside courier was used and i explain that i was not informed of this earlier, when i ask for contact info for the courier she gives attitude and says that she does not have any... wtf? so before i flip out on her i think, breathe, thank her and end the call.

i make myself some ice-tea and call back. now i get a really sweet and sympathetic CSR (daniella) and she explains to me that since it is ground the delivery is not gauranteed before 5p.m. (which i understand and dont mind) and that there is nothing on my file that says that the delivery was given to another courier service. She also explains that so far delivery is scheduled for today and if it does not arrive by 7:30 or 8:00 call back and they will see whats going on. i explained to her that the dhl facility where the package was at is close to my college and she immediately told me that if not delivered tonight i can have it held there and pick it up tomorow.

all in all i'm not that stressed but not that happy so we'll see what happens today.

Mount pocono area of pennsylvania....
its kind of the sticks but i've had DHL deliver to my oher house and that one is way harder to get to than where i live now...
maybe it's just a busy day and i'm last on the deliveries list....
who knows.
7:22pm and still no 1420....

 

10 pm and no 1420....

called dhl and asked about the status and found out that my package was indeed given to another courier service and that they have no idea what company it was given to as well as no contact info for that company...
the only way to find out is for dhl to call their facility that turned the package over in the first place and ask them what company it was given to and even then i would need dell's permission to pick up my package because an attempt to deliver it has not been made...

i swear to god i can never win when it comes to these things...

oh and also dell customer care is closed for the night so thats a no go for the permission side of things....

 

Man that sucks I've heard nothing but bad for laptops shipped via DHL I really hope mine somehow comes FedEx they've been so much better to me in the past. DHL can deliver my less-important items such as the OS DVD's

 

ok update...
after much turmoil i got my 1420.
monday night i checked the dhl website and it said delivered...wtf!!
i called dhl and explained that they deliered that package to the wrong location to which they said they would "recover" the package.
me, worried as hell asked "what if this person does not want to return the package?" and the answer was that if unable to recover the package, dhl was not responsible for it unless the insurance was purchased.
i was pissed...
the next day i get a phone call during class and it was dhl explaining that the package was in their hands, it was never signed for because theyconfirmed delivery on the wrong tracking #.
i picked it up and am typing this up as we speak...
all i have to do is go tomorrow to pick up my lojack package and i'm set...

so 30 days, countless headaches and $1,300 later i got my inspiron....

i am very happy with it and will eventually get another battery and bluetooth...

If DHL gives my laptop to some random person there will be war

 

I saw a DHL guy delivering packages today in my heighborhood...he had one hand on the wheel, while lighting his cigarette...

 

i aint gonna front... that track is one of my favorites...
but yeah the wait was worth it, now all i need are some games..

anyone know where i can find a good program that will let me transfer my music from my ipod to my new laptop?

 

hell i mapquested the adress where they "delivered" my laptop to. i was gonna roll over there and demand my **** back if dhl did nothing about it. nothing stupid tho...
it was the same town i go to college in luckily so i did not have to go out my way to pick it up.

 

You don't need any special program to be able to do that. Just go to Control Panel then Folder Options. Then click the View tab, search for "Hidden Files & Folders" then click the option "show hidden files and folders." Then click Okay. Now go to My Computer. The Ipod will show up now, in which you can access all the files on it. They won't read normally, however. Music files will read like "RQSL" Idk, that is just an example. You can add all of these files to your itunes. This is the way to transfer music or files from ipods to any computer you want to. You just have to make sure that you can view hidden files and folders.

Glad you got your laptop. Congrats. Waiting on mine, ordered 7/29, second estimated ship date 8/28 to receive before 9/4 (almost six weeks). Crazy.

somuch2s@y - they told me it was because of a parts shortage, my guess was lcd screen given the worldwide shortage i read about somewhere.
it was delayed a week and then it said delayed another week but then it shipped that day.

jebrise - thanks alot. i think it was worth the wait now because i am truly happy with this fine piece of machinery resting underneath my fingertips.

 

Another nice program you can use is called "iDump" to transfer songs from your iPod to your laptop. You can find it on www.download.com
