Hi all you proud penryn XPS owners.
Has the dreaded Intel CPU whine found it's way into the penryn processers too, or do they finally end the problem?
-
cpus dont whine...and the whining problem probably wont be fixed until the next chipset comes out...or MS fix the power management problem in vista...as it doesnt whine in Ubuntu/linux gamers

I am proud to say...... the WHINE is still there!!
-
i hear people talking about a 'whine'.....and am about to order my m1330....
but just HOW BAD can the 'whine' be?
to describe it as a whine makes it sound like it will drive me crazy. but i was in a dell real site the other day just to get my hands n an actual unit to get a feel for it before deciding to purchase one and i didnt hear ANY sound coming from it at all. i played around with it for a few min, looking at videos etc and NO sound.
so, what exactly is this dreaded 'whine' that people keep talking about like?
are people just being too picky and striving for perfection? -
The "cpu whine" is a high frequency noise coming from the motherboard. It is caused when piezoelectric static is resonating.
When the CPU clocks down to powerstate C3 and C4 - to save power the resonating begins, and the sound is audible. Some machines aren't affected by this at all - and the problem hasn't been located. Therefore it can't be solved by Intel or motherboard producers.
But the m1330 has really been hit with this problem, the big brother m1530 - as far as I've read - hasn't been suffering from this problem in the same extent. -
I have the whine on mine... only noticeable if you actually put your ears close to the keyboard.
-
Plus if you run Folding @ Home on it like you should be anyway, problem solved
-
Does M1330 BIOS A09 help at all?
-
No A09 doesn't help. RMClock (which I use to undervolt anyway) can easily be used to permanently stop the whine at the price of 1 tiny process always running.
-
Havent noticed any whining with mine.
