    Dell now offers penryn processors on the dell XPS M1530

    no one has started a thread on this so I thought I would. What do you guys think of the penryn compared to merom? Is it worth the cost? You pay a pretty penny for that extra 2mb of cache compared to T7700 for example. What do you guys think? Do you think an led screen might be soon to come? :)

    My patience has finally payed off :D But I'm still waiting for a good coupon/deal.

    I think the Penryn will be worth it for me because I want to use as little power as possible. I'm going for the T8300 to save the most money. It's worth it as far as I researched.

    An LED screen would be nice, but not necessary.

    Correct me if I'm mistaken..

    65nm = more power consumption
    45nm = less power consumption

    65nm = more heat production
    45nm = less heat production

    more heat production = more fan use
    less heat production = less fan use

    more fan use = more power consumption
    less fan use = less power consumption

    more power consumption = more heat production
    less power consumption = less heat production

    And the loop goes on.

    yea sounds right. you will save battery power. But heat difference is minimal, so fan isn't on much less than with the merom. But yes, penryn is smaller, less power consumption, cooler, more transistors closer together and larger cache.

    This is what i've heard anyway. If my 1530 comes with a grainy screen i might return it and reorder with a penryn

    The challenge now is to wait for a good deal - which on dell.ca are usually few and far between. Especially when you compare to the big coupons they offer every week or two south of the border........

    btw I asked an online rep about a week ago about LED screens and he had no idea when they might be an option but they hadnt heard anything (of course that doesnt necessarily mean much as I guess the call centres are probably the last to know :p )

    Yeah and when the new tech is released the prices will be higher....initially...I wonder myself how much more performance they will have over the 7500-7800 etc...
