I just got done on the phone to dell and a really helpful agent told me that I should hold off purchasing an M1330 because he expects penryn to be in the systems no later than the first week in February.
That backs up the XPS 1530 Product_Red that was posted a few days ago featuring Penryn proccessors on Dell's website.
Anyone who can't make up their mind as to whether to wait or buy now, like me, might want to take this into consideration.

No offense, but I can't see a Dell rep dissuading someone from making a purchase. That's like an insurance agent telling you that you don't need to buy insurance.
-
not if he thought about it logically; the rep knows that the better processor will cost more money, and who knows if thats the only addition that will be seen? so its like asking 1000 dollars now? or 1300 in two weeks?

I just hope the pricing is reasonable. Retail-wise, the T8300 costs around the same as the T7500, and the T9300 costs ~T7700, so hopefully Dell will reflect the similarity. Unlike the ridiculous £200 for an extra 2gb of ram.

god dammit dell. JUst when the $600 off coupon ends on jan 31. Now will someone tell me if it's worth waiting for penryn. I do intend to get 4 years warranty and keep it that long. The thing with dell is that they cut $600 off but they don't give you the option of gettin small components and upgrading.
Example the only hd options for the $600 off laptop are 320gb 5400 or 200gb 7200 with only $25 difference. The minimum ram you have to buy is 3gb. Etc etc.
So instead of buying only 1 gb ram and like 80 gb hd's (but not gettin $600 off) and upgrading your self its almost the same cost to buy the $600 off system. And if you work out the difference (and yes i did) the cost to upgrade it yourself is about the same.
Finally my main point is that dell probably knows that people buy the cheap ones and upgrade themselves. So now dell is giving you almost the same price and making you buy the upgrades from them! That's for people with comp know how. For everyone else it appears to be just a good deal.
Please if you disagree with what i've said above and can prove it wrong be my guest. I'd rather upgrade my self and save some money too but it seams its the same cost. -
Although waiting for the Penryn is tempting, I really want to take advantage of the discounts going on right now. I'm able to save about $1000 bucks with all my EPP discounts (16% Boeing, 10% additional, 4% additional). Besides, it might not even be a for-sure thing that Penryn will be coming out around the first week of February. So I'd rather not wait.

Ask him about LED screen next time. But this is good enough news for me to return my notebook in the 21 day return period...if I can get some more concrete confirmation. Unfortunately, the only concrete confirmation I expect will be the ability to order one from Dell.com.
