Hey guys, i noticed that penryn is already available for xps1330. When should they be available for m1530??

I find it really strange that they have released them for 13' but not for 15'... i mean, the cpu slots in both cpus must be completely the same...

    how come this hasn't happened???

Because Dell wants me to buy a Powernotebook.com notebook that has the Penryn in it. Like I'm about to do this week...

I don't know, but the computers that do offer Penryn processors are charging high prices for the upgrade. The difference in performance isn't enough to justify the high prices IMO. Besides, most consumers don't even use their current processor to its full potential, why go for more?

i agree, I cannot justify paying premium for those high end penryn's. I have 1.5 C2D in my Acer that works fine with anythings, games, video, browsing etc... The only reason I would get faster processor for MPEG4 HD rendering. 1.5Ghz shows it's weaknesses in that... So, I have T7500 on order...

Stinks to be you! Your missing out on the dell quality. The new processors aren't worth it in my opinion.

The asus m51sn has the new t9300 (2.5ghz) and nvidia 9500M GS 512mb and it doesn't seem to improve performance or battery life much (not enough to notice). It's in the Asus forum section

I was talking to a Dell rep with the "XPS chat" function and he said the T7700 would remain the top of the line CPU in Europe for the M1530 for the time being, but a better graphics solution is out "soon"

He wouldn't tell me what it was :( Maybe a 8700m GT or the new 3870 mobile?

The chat reps are fairly unreliable imo.

    You can say that again!

On the 22nd January I asked one when Penryn was going to be in the m1330 and he said 'very soon'. Nearly one month later and they still aren't there  (this is the UK)

Anyway 10 days ago I got bored of waiting and ordered myself a HP :D

Yeah the reps really don't know ****. I talked to them about a month ago regarding the grainy Sec3550 (Samsung) screens and was told they were being phased out and only LG screens would be used in the future. A month later and they're still using the crappy Samsung screens.

    ? ?

No, I'm still agonizing over what to do. The Dell President's Day sale or the PowerPro 11:15.

In your opinion. Some people have the money and it isn't an issue, so they want to go with it for other benefits. Performance isn't the only plus and it isn't the only thing to consider. They might not use all the performsnce but maybe they want lower heat and longer battery life. *shrug* SSD is not worth it to most folks, but I got one. Same reasons.

Okay, everyone can relax now. The Dell 1530s with Penryns should be released tomorrow. How do I know? I just placed my order for a new XPS 1530 with a T7700 processor. :D

Uhhh... last I checked the 7700 is not a Penryn. Penryns start with 9 or 8.

Note the specs for my 5 week old 1530 below...

Can't be too long now. On the Dell Canada site, there are now Penryn options for the Inspiron 1420 and 1720.

Well I'm an Australian. The rep told me that LED screens and Penryn had not been planned for Australia. Awesome. >.<

If I was going to guess, I'd say the beginning of March when the present deals for the 1530 end here. But, given the unpredictability of Dell's marketing strategy, I might have a better chance being right if I used tarot cards. :)

There are probably still supply issues. I was messing around and configuring notebooks from different companies and noticed that almost all of the Penryn options caused a shipping delay.

Well we get new deals tomorrow. So we'll see how it goes. I'm probably going to order one anyway. Penryn seems like a "want" more than a "need", if you get what I'm saying.

Actually Dell Australia were the first to get Penryn out of Dell worldwide. It was a free upgrade on the high end M1330 at the end of January.
